Dave LaGala pitches a complete game shutout in Game 5 to end the World Series with a victory for Hogan, Kurt, and O-Dogg. Check out our new ***Mini Quiz*** on the best 2003 World Series Moment
O-Dogg throws a no-hitter! Ken follows in game 2 with his own No-hit bid, spoiled in extra innings. Read about it in GAME RECAP
MP played AF in a quick weekend game where O-Dogg, John, and Hogan took the field against Russo, Ritacco and Kevin (the guy who rung the foul pole) from AF. MP quickly flexed their wiffleball muscles when Hogan hit a grand slam in the first. AF would get only one run on a bases loaded walk. John and Hogan drove in two more runs making the the final score 6-1 once again ending any argument against the fact that MP is the greatest organization around.

To McVey Park and the rest of the wiffleball world,
I would like to begin my second edition by thanking one of MP’s superstars, Dan Hogan! Dan has taken the website to new and improved levels. I feel this kind of off-season effort is just what this league is looking for. It showed me and should show the others that Hogan is fired up and ready to get this season underway. Thank you, Hogan.
Just a little update on where we are. I am currently working on the dates and times of the individual contract meetings. Minor work on the field will begin as early as March 1st. There are rumors of outside leagues wanting to challenge M.P. I am also looking into a Connecticut Tourney that takes place around 4th of July. Although things seem quiet, it is obvious that things are starting to boil. Remember get involved, call me up, sign the book, buy some equipment (balls, bats, things to improve the park), and raise some questions and comments.
On a side note, I have been in discussion with my older brother Matt on some possible media attention for M.P. this year. I feel that it is a great way to generate more recognition for M.P. throughout the wiffleball world. We have discussed various ways to go about this filming process and we have now come to an agreement. Matt will begin shooting what he hopes to be a 1-hour documentary on Wiffleball, while using our league as an example to show how big wiffleball actually is. He will start as early as the first days of grounds crew to contract negotiations, through spring training, heavy filming on opening day, and then right into the season and all the way through to the World Series. I have agreed to let him in the clubhouse before or after games. Access to the dugout will be allowed, but limited. He will interview each M.P. star, as well as the owner Harry McVey. I am really looking forward to this and we hope it will make an impact on the wiffleball world.
Thank You.
God Bless
Pres.
1st edition
I would like to start off this first edition of the presidents corner by wishing everyone a happy new year. We look forward to seeing all of the familair faces around the diamond this upcoming season.
Let me now turn my attention to the players of the greatest wiffleball league in the entire world. Indeed a bold statement, but who has yet to conquer M.P.? No-One. I am anticipating a very productive 2003 season. As we know, getting in 40+ games and a 7-game world series is not an easy task to accomplish. I feel as well as the commissioner of this league that we have the ultimate support and dedication from the players to organize a successful 2003 season. I will not beg, but rather ask for this type of support and dedication from each individual athlete during a new contract process that I have come up with. I will later discuss the details as well as other new processes that the commissioner and I feel is necessary.
We understand that the income during the season is not nearly enough to support our families and other obligations, so players engaging in other jobs is very, very understandable. However do realize that we are all getting older and it WILL become tougher and tougher to do what we love, and That’s Play Wiffleball!! I need everyone to look forward to this season and take part in something during the off-season to let the commissioner and myself know that you are ready to get going. Whether it is a phone call to discuss ideas or simply a write up on the guestbook. Get involved!!!! This especially goes for what I call the Super 6. You know who you are. If you need question yourself if you are one of these 6, then your obviously not.
Thank you for your time...
God Bless,
Pres.

Game 1. 5/18 - And the madness begins...
With the first decisive game for MP in years, players took the field with tensions running high. With pitching conflicts, Ken Cereola took his veteran arm to the hill for the second time in the day to pitch his way to victory and keep his title. Dave took the spot start to try and win his first title. Dave pitched the game of his career as he took a no-hitter into the 5th when Ken laid down a bunt for the first hit off Dave. Ken had given up only one hit in the game against Dave until he hit a 2-run line drive homerun to right-center to break a scoreless tie. His team mobbed him at home plate, the way Dave was pitching, it would be all they would need. Ken pitched outstanding considering he threw 13 innings within 6 hours. No one hit a ball hard off him all day except Kurt and Dave. Hogan and Dogg could not touch Ken. Dave took the lead into the 7th where he would find some trouble. After a hit and a few walks, the bases were loaded. Dave was in danger of blowing the 2-0 lead in the Top of the 7th. John pinch hit for Ritz and with no out, John popped to Dave who doubled off Ritz at 3rd to end the game. The team took a victory lap while hoisting their trophy in the air. This was the first win for Dave and Hogan, 3rd for O-Dogg.
2-0 Final W-Dave(2-0) L-Ken(2-1) HR- Dave(3)
WS Game 4. 7/28 - And on to Game 5
John took the mound in an attempt to take the title for 2003. He would face his brother Kurt, who had not yet pitched in the series yet. Kurt was dominant as usual. John was holding his opponents to base hits while pitching out of jams. John's arm was hurt but he made the adjustments and kept his team in the game to the end. Hogan hit a solo shot in the 4th, and that would be all they would need as Kurt shut down Ken, John, Ritz, and Mike. The series moved to a deciding Game 5.
1-0 Final W-Kurt(1-0) L-John(0-2) HR- Hogan(1)
In a pivotal Game 3, Ken took the mound against O-Dogg in a rematch of Game 1. Ken was extremely dominant again. He notched K after K without allowing a hit until Dave's single in the 5th. O-Dogg was doing the same, striking out the opposition while limiting hits. In the bottom of the 7th, O-Dogg got into some trouble when he loaded the bases. John and Ken used their pinch hitter when they brought up John to face Dogg. On the first pitch of the at-bat, in a scoreless game, John put Dogg's fastball on the roof for a walk-off Grand Slam and a lead in the series 2-1.
4-0 Final W-Ken(2-0) L-O-Dogg(0-2) HR- John(1)
The second game of the Series brought on as much excitement as the first. John's team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Dave came back with a homer in the bottom of the inning along with O-Dogg's shot. John's team kept battling back, refusing to allow Dave a comfortable lead. Ritz hit his first career MP homer over the house to bring the his team within one. The score was tied in the bottom of the sixth. With two on, Hogan hit a fly ball to left that Dave was able to score on to take the lead. In the top of the 7th, Dave faced Ken twice and John. With two on, Ken popped out, and Dave struck out Ritz on an 0-2 pitch to tie the series.
7-6 Final W-Dave(1-0) L-John(0-1) HR- Dave 2(2), Ritz(1), O-Dogg(1)
WS Game 1. 7/18 - A Game of Inches
Game 1 of the 2003 World Series quickly developed into another MP classic. O-Dogg threw for his team against Ken (first start off DL). The two matched zeroes through four, until Ritz drew a bases loaded walk off O-Dogg (allowed only 2 hits). The score was 1-0 going into the bottom of the 7th, Hogan to lead off. Ken had not given up a hit for 6 innings, was bidding for a no-hit shutout. Dan, who struck out twice against Ken hit a fly ball to center that grazed the roof, not quite enough for a homerun. He stood on first as Kurt struck out, Dave walked. With two on and one out, Ken pitched out of trouble by striking out O-Dogg on a 3-2 pitch to notch a win for John, Ritz, and Mikey.
1-0 Final W-Ken(1-0) L-O-Dogg(0-1) HR- None
Game 15. 7/15 - What a way to end
MP's regular season ended with a 13 inning endless marathon. The pickup game was started by Dan Hogan and Kurt. Dan threw his 2003 debut allowing one run (Dave HR) in the first 4 innings. Kurt was hit early by John, Hogan, and Ken. The score was 5-1 in the 5th when Dave hit his 2nd homer to make it 5-3. Ken added a solo shot the next inning. In the top of the 7th, Hogan, one out away from his first win let up a 3-run homer to Kurt to tie it. The score remained tied until the 9th when John (relieved Hogan in the 7th) walked in the lead run. John walked in the tying run the following inning. On a hot muggy day with the tensions high, MP stars ended their 2003 regular season in bizarre fashion. The game was never finalized, but the score remained a 7-7 tie.
7-7 Final, Pitchers - Hogan(NR) vs. Kurt(2-3) HR-Dave 2(6) Kurt(2) John(6) Ken (4)
MP plays their annual 4th of July day game with Kurt and Dave on the hill. On an exceptionally hot day, Kurt fell behind to Dave when he walked John with the bases loaded. He pitched out of trouble but later surrendered a two-run homer to Hogan (5 HRs in 2 games) over the house. Kurt held the opposition scoreless until the 7th when Hogan hit another 2-run blast. Ken came in for relief and allowed a two run shot to John(ends a 3-game homerless streak) to center. Dave's shutout bid was ended when Matt Hogan hit a single scoring Mikey from 3rd for their only run.
7-1 Final W-Dave(4-4) L-Kurt(2-3) HR-Hogan 2(8) John(5)
Game 13. 6/30 - Lightning Crashes
It was a hot and muggy day at MP with the clouds rolling on. MP had a week off and took the field with Ken starting against Dave. It was a scorless tie until the 3rd when Hogan hit a 3-run homer to center off Dave. Ken was dominant on the mound once again, and improved his record to 5-1 as his team never looked back. Hogan hit two more homers to left and had 9 RBIs on the day. Ken was responsible for the remaining run batted in. As the seventh inning approached an intense thunder storm stirred overhead. MP played through it as the loyal fans took cover to avoid the elements.
10-0 Final W-Ken(5-1) L-Dave(3-4) HR-Hogan 3(6)
Game 12. 6/23 - Bringin' the Heat
With mother nature bringing the heat finally in the chilly 2003 summer, MP pitchers brought some heat of their own. O-Dogg threw against Dave. Dogg jumped out to an early lead by hitting a solo shot off Dave. Dave's team came back with a 5-run inning consisting of a combination of walks and RBI singles. Dogg's team showed resiliance in the later innings, but were unable to mount a comeback. Tempers flared in this game along with the bat of Rookie Dan Rittereiser who had 4 hits.
5-2 Final W-Dave(3-3) L-O-Dogg(2-4) HR-O-Dogg(4)
Game 11. 6/20 - Bats gettin' tossed
O-Dogg started this pickup game against Ken. The two MP stars matched zeroes through 4 innings. Both pitchers got into bases loaded jams but were able to pitch out of them. O-Dogg was relieved by Kurt in the 5th who continued to shutdown the opposition. MP was lacking offense today causing frustration among batters. Bat throwing incidents were on the rise today. Sandlot bat took a beating. In the 9th, Hogan lead of the top of the inning with a solo homer. Mikey singled and Ken drove him in from second for some insurance. Ken pitched 9 shutout innings.
2-0 Final W-Ken(4-1) L-Kurt(2-2) HR-Hogan(3)
Game 10. 6/15 - The Calm After the Storm
After the wild events of game one, MP took the field for the second game of the Father's Day double header. John threw after some persuasion against Dave. John surrendered a homer to Ken and Mikey and they quickly jumped out to a 7-0 lead. John came back with a three run homer in the following inning to bring his team back in the game. Dogg and Hogan would provide and RBI each to bring to score even closer (7-5). In the bottom of the 6th, John let up solo jobs to Ken and Mikey again making the score 9-5. With one out, Dave pitched himself out of a jam by striking out Hogan to end the game and getting the win.
9-5 Final W-Dave(2-3) L-John(1-1) HR-Ken 2(3) Mike 2(3) John(4)
On this beautiful Father's Day evening Pat Cereola pitched in his 2003 debut against the great O-Dogg. Pat allowed to bases loaded walks in the first but pitched out of trouble. He then allowed a two-run homer to Hogan in the 2nd. O-Dogg was dominating on the other end making in difficult for Pat to have a chance. After Matt Hogan his a grand slam, his first homer at MP, Pat (MP's wild child) forfeited his position at MP and was kindly asked to leave the park. With no choice left, Ken came in to throw. Like night and day, Ken dominated the remainder of the game, but the damage was done.
8-0 Final W-O-Dogg(2-3) L-Pat(0-1) HR-Hogan(2) Matt H.(1)
On a nasty, wet morning, Dave took the mound against Ken. Ken showed his "perfection" through 2 innings until Dave hit a solo shot on the house to break the scoreless tie. Ken, Kurt and John battled back in the bottom of the inning as Dave struggled with the bases loaded. Dave's team responded with a game tying 5th inning but was quickly erased by John's RBI ground out. The rain began to pour and was heavy at times, making defense difficult and the ball was staying in the park. Both Kurt and John hit liners off the top of the wall. Ken pitched out of trouble in the 6th and with one on in the 7th, Kurt came in to close out the game.
4-3 Final W-Ken(3-1) L-Dave(1-3) HR-Dave(4)
Possibly inspired by O-Dogg's gem, Ken, who was riding an unbelievable K-streak on the mound, took the hill in the second game against Kurt. Ken was in complete control and he K'd batter after batter. No one put the ball in play as Ken took his streak and his perfect game into the 6th. Mikey broke it up by popping out, but Ken still had a perfect game in tact. Kurt was in command as well as this game was still scoreless moving into the 8th. Mikey walked to lead the inning, and break up the perfecto and then, Kurt hit a two-run game winning homer off Ken to spoil the no-hitter and the win for Ken. Both pitchers were at the top of their game and were virtually untouchable.
2-0 Final W-Kurt(2-1) L-Ken(2-1) HR-Kurt(1)
On another cloudy, overcast day, MP players Hogan, John, Dan R. and O-Dogg took the field not knowing they would be experiencing a part of MP history. O-Dogg took the mound with authority against Dave at 3:45pm. O-Dogg picked up K after K and Dave was not making it any easier. O-Dogg helped himself in the 3rd by hitting a 2-run homer. That would be all he needed when he took a no-hitter into the 7th. Ken pinch hit and O-Dogg struck him out back to back to close out his masterpiece. His team mobbed him and hoisted him into the air as O-Dogg threw the first No-hitter since Ken 4 years ago. This was almost a perfect game, had it not been for Kurt hitting a ball up the middle that Hogan could not handle. O-Dogg notches his first win on the mound and overall in exciting fashion. Dan R. must be acknowledged for his great catch in right to keep the no-no alive. Kurt made a similar play in center diving for a ball off the bat of Dan R.
2-0 Final W-O-Dogg(1-3) L-Dave(1-2) HR-O-Dogg(3)
Game 5. 6/3 - Where was the sun?
On a day that was forecast to be a nice sunny day for wiffleball, MP players took the field at 11:00 am under an overcast sky. Kurt took the hill against O-Dogg and this one was a duel. For 4 innings these two battled it out until O-Dogg let up a solo homer to Hogan in the fifth. Then in the bottom of the inning, Ken gunned out Dave at the plate to save Kurt's shutout. Ken drove in an additional run in from second to help out Kurt. Kurt struck out John to end the game with the tying runs on second and third.
2-0 Final W-Kurt(1-1) L-O-Dogg(0-3) HR-Hogan(1)
Game 4. 5/25 - That damn 5th inning...
With rain pounding the local area, MP grounds crew worked all morning to make conditions playable by 2:00PM. John McVey made his 2003 debut on the mound and faced off against O-Dogg, each looking for their first win. Scoreless through 2 innings, John hit a 3-run homer. John cruised through the rest of the game only to give up a solo homer to O-Dogg.
4-1 Final W-John(1-0) L-O-Dogg(0-2) HR-John(3) O-Dogg(2)
Game 3. 5/25 - MP plays a wet one
A beautiful day at McVey Park hosted a pitching duel with both opening day winners going head to head. Kenny and Dave took the mound both looking to move to 2-0 on the season. John led the 1st inning with a solo job. Hindy responded to following inning with a homer to dead center. Dave added another run with a shot of his own (back to back). Ken Cereola struck out 14 batters, all outs for K’s. In the fifth inning, Ken hit a monster shot over the house to win the game with his brother Pat on base.
4-3 Final W-Ken(2-0) L-Dave(1-1) HR-Ken(1) John(2) Dave(3) Hindy(2)
Game 2. 5/18 - Can I help you?
For the second game of the day, Kurt took the mound against Dave. It looked to be another classic game when both pitchers put up zereos and K's into the 5th. Mikey McVey ended that with a solo shot to center off LaGala. John McVey responded the following inning with an opposite field solo HR to tie it. Dave LaGala hit a 2-run homer in the 7th for some insurance. He would need it when O-Dogg hit a solo shot on the roof in the bottom of the 7th. The score was 3-2 in the 7th, bases loaded, and one out. Dave pitched his way out of the jam and struck out O-Dogg for the win.
3-2 Final W-Dave(1-0) L-Kurt(0-1) HR-John(1), O-Dogg(1), Dave(2)
Game 1. 5/18 - And the madness begins...
The 2003 season opened with another classic game. Ken C. took the hill against O-Dogg. The two battled it out for 4 innings until Dave LaGala (after calling it) hit the first homer of the season. Steve Hindy followed with a 3 run blast. 6-0 going into the 6th, it looked like it would be over, however, O-Dogg's domination fell apart when Ken, John, Dan, and Matt Hogan chipped away for a 10-run inning. Ken (14K's, maximum in regualtion) hung on for the opening day win.
10-7 Final W-Ken(1-0) L-ODogg(0-1) HR-Dave(1), Hindy(1)
Ken Cereola -- Neck; Ken tweeked his neck while working out. He is Day to Day
John McVey -- Left arm; John has been throwing I must admit. It appears safe to activate him in MP-only leagues
Kurt -- Tired; This guy is real tired
Dave LaGala -- Okay...Split his finger reaching for the brake on his quad as it rolled down a hill towards him after he fell off while Upstate. Playing with the injury.
MLSB can't take the HEAT from MP!
On the next episode of Beyong the Glory, we will explore the trials and tribulations of troubled MP start Dave LaGala. Dave has publicly announced that this will be his last year of MP wiffle ball. We will explore Dave's darker side, that only those who play on the field with him know. "It's like night and day," says MP star Dan Hogan. We will explain Dave's mysterious disappearance in 2001, while answering the question, "Who keeps calling this guy during games?" Dave has said, "Maybe I'll play some pickup games I don't know." Stunning words. The pieces to this enigmatic puzzle will all come together next Tuesday on Beyond the Glory.
New Records have been set at MP!
Dan R. and Kurt -- Complete Game of not talking about Lord of the Rings (First Time in MP History)

Entire MP team -- Earliest consumption of a hot dog and coke (10:30 AM Friday July 18th)
Fans want to know what has happened to MP "Loyals" Oldis and Sganga. The two players have since left MP inexplicibly. The truth has come out in a recent press conference with MP officials. Turns out Dan Oldis was traded for a large box (30) of Wiffle Balls which have been put to good use this year. Matt Sganga was shipped off in exchange for a few burgers and doggies for MP players to snack on between games of a double header last week.
MP is considering shutting down their Negro League. It seems the alternative Wiffle organization is drawing more of a crowd than the original league. To avoid risk of embarassment MP is debating whether or not the league "fits" into their budget.
