European Court of Human Rights Any Contracting State (State application) or individual
claiming to be a victim of a violation of the Convention (individual application) may lodge directly with the Court in Strasbourg an application alleging a breach by a Contracting State of one of the Convention rights. A
notice for the guidance of applicants and forms for making applications may be obtained from the Registry.
The procedure before the European Court of Human Rights is adversarial and public. Hearings, which are held only in a minority of cases, are public, unless the Chamber/Grand Chamber decides otherwise on account of exceptional circumstances. Memorials and other documents filed with the Court’s Registry by the parties are, in principle, accessible to the public.
Individual applicants may submit applications themselves, but legal representation is recommended, and even required for hearings or once an application has been declared admissible. The Council of Europe has set up a legal aid scheme for applicants who do not have sufficient means.

We investigate and expose human rights violations and hold abusers accountable.
We challenge governments and those who hold power to end abusive practices and respect international human rights law.
We enlist the public and the international community to support the cause of human rights for all.

International Council on Human Rights Policy The International Council on Human Rights Policy was established in Geneva in 1998 to conduct useful research into problems and dilemmas that face organisations working in the field of human rights. All Council activities relate directly to human rights.
The Council is independent of governments and inter-governmental organisations as well as voluntary and private sector organisations. It works closely with all such bodies in the pursuit of its research objectives.

International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights The International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights is a self-governing group of non-governmental, not-for-profit organizations that act to protect human rights throughout Europe, North America and Central Asia. A primary specific goal is to monitor compliance with the human rights provisions of the Helsinki Final Act and its Follow-up Documents. A secretariat based in Vienna supports and provides liaison among forty-one member Helsinki committees and associated human rights groups, and represents them at the international political level. The IHF also has direct links with individuals and groups supporting human rights in countries where no Helsinki committees exist. In addition to gathering and analyzing information on human rights conditions in OSCE participating States, the IHF acts as a clearing house for this information, disseminating it to governments, inter-governmental organizations, the press and the public at large. The IHF is even-handed in its criticism of human rights violations with respect to the political systems of states in which these abuses occur.

International Human Rights Law Group The International Human Rights Law Group is a non-profit organization of human rights and legal professionals from over 20 countries engaged in advocacy, strategic human rights lawyering and training around the world. Our mission is to empower local advocates to expand the scope of human rights protections and to promote broad participation in building human rights standards and procedures at the national, regional and international levels.
With a diverse staff of international human rights professionals from over 20 countries, IHRLG works to develop and strengthen international human rights norms and the institutions that enforce them worldwide. At the same time, recognizing the critical role domestic groups play in challenging human rights abuses in their countries, we develop programs to meet the needs expressed by local organizations to strengthen their capacity to respond to these abuses. We provide direct technical support to local organizations over extended periods, emphasizing essential human rights skills including fact-finding and reporting, human rights advocacy and strategic lawyering at both the domestic and international levels. Drawing on our in-country presence, we bring the voices of local activists to the attention of the international human rights community to integrate those voices into foreign policy discussions and actions, particularly in the United States and at the United Nations.

International Federation of Human Rights Leagues The purpose of the FIDH, the International Federation of Human Rights Leagues, is to advance the implementation of all the rights defined by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the other international instruments protecting human rights.

It provides them with an unparalleled network of expertise and solidarity, as well as a clear guide to the procedures of international organisations. It is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) of international solidarity, officially recognised by the state. It is non-political, non-sectarian, and non- profit-making.

International League for Human Rights The International League for Human Rights has worked
to keep human rights at the forefront of international affairs and to give meaning and effect to the human rights values enshrined in international human rights treaties and conventions. The League's special mission for 60 years has been defending individual human rights advocates who have risked their lives to promote the ideals of a just and civil society in their homelands.
Based in New York, with representation in Geneva and dozens of affiliates and partners around the world, the League is a non-governmental, non-profit organization now in its 58th year. The League has special consultative status at the United Nations, the Council of Europe, and the International Labor Organization,
and also contributes to the Africa Commission and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe
(OSCE). With the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights as its platform, the League raises human rights issues and cases before the UN and other intergovernmental regional organizations in partnership with our colleagues abroad, helping to amplify their voices and coordinate strategies for effective human rights protection.

Physicians for Human Rights USA Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) promotes health by protecting human rights. We believe that human rights are essential preconditions for the health and well-being of all people. Using medical and scientific methods, we investigate and expose violations of human rights worldwide and we work to stop them. We support institutions that hold perpetrators of human rights abuses, including health professionals, accountable for their actions. We educate health professionals and medical, public health and nursing students and organize them to become active in supporting a movement for human rights and creating a culture of human rights in the medical and scientific professions.
Since 1986, PHR members have worked to stop torture, disappearances, and political killings by governments and opposition groups; to improve health and sanitary conditions in prisons and detention centers; to investigate the physical and psychological consequences of violations of humanitarian law in internal and international conflicts; to defend medical neutrality and the right of civilians and combatants to receive medical care during times of war; to protect health professionals who are victims of violations of human rights; and to prevent medical complicity in torture and other abuses.

Rights international Established in 1994, Rights International fights for those rights recognized by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights treaties. They operate independently of any political ideology, government, economic interest, or religious creed. Rights International’s goals are two-fold: to protect the human rights of our clients, and to advance the development of international human rights caselaw. They serve these goals through a number of means. Among them are:
Representing victims of human rights violations in international tribunals, and filing amicus briefs before such tribunals. These international tribunals include
the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights,
the Inter-American Court of Human Rights,
the European Court of Human Rights, and
the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights

United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights The concern of the United Nations with the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms stems directly from the realization by the international community that "recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world", and from the resultant pledge of States Members of the United Nations "to achieve, in cooperation with the United
Nations, the promotion of universal respect for and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms".
