On May 21, 2002, my wife and I attended the very emotional dedication of the Memorial Park in honor of the 15 firefighter heroes from Paul's firehouse: Engine 54, Ladder 4, Battalion 9 -- The Pride of Midtown. At the end of the ceremony, each family member placed a white rose in the fountain in remembrance of their loved one.

The morning started out sunny but soon gave way to gray clouds and turned into an overcast, dreary day. However, just as my wife and I approached the fountain to place the rose in Paul's memory, the sun briefly broke through the clouds. Georgette looked up at the sky and with tears in her eyes said to me "John, look: Paul is shining down on us."

Shine On, My Firefighter Hero Son, Shine On!
