A quick comment:      Back to G-1: Review D-III      Teletran-1

This is my first Laserbeak toy.  As a kid, I had always wanted to own one but never really got such luck due to financial problem.  So after two decades later, he is now mine to own.  Anyhow, I bought it on Sept. Xx Mmiii and it cost me $L, from Image Anime.  This Laserbeak was packaged with Soundwave.

R-0 Original Laserbeak's motto and tech specifications:

Affiliate: decepticons | Subgroup: none | Function: interrogation | Alt. Mode: cassette|

| STR 5 | INTL 6 | SPD 8 | ENDN 5 | RNK 6 | CRG 2 | FRPW 8 | SKL 9 |

Original G1 Laserbeak Motto:

"The only point I like in Autobots: melting point."

Original G1 Laserbeak Bio:

Laserbeak takes pleasure in hunting his prey-usually the straggling survivors of a battle.  Noticeably not brave.  Will run for safety if threatened.  Flies at speeds up to 250 mph.  Uses two independently targetable laser cannons with extreme precision to get information from captives.  Shortage of ruby crystals that power the lasers can panic his systems into shutting down.

These images were all photographed and scanned by me.  If you're a Transformers fan, this will definitely bring back some reminiscences.

R-1 Laserbeak in its Original condition:

Soundwaveorg.jpg (98151 bytes)1 - Front of the box.

2 - Here's how it looked once you opened the cover revealing Laserbeak, Soundwave and contents.

3 - Here's how the content looks once the box was removed revealing contents on clear plastic tray..

4 - These are all the contents that were included in the box/ package/ card: "1" walkman,  " 2" batteries/ guns, "3" missiles, "1" clear cassette tape, "1" cassette case, "2" cassette cannon,  "2" trading cards (Soundwave & Laserbeak), "1" Soundwave sticker sheet, "1" instruction sheet, "1" G1 PS2 game catalog ads, "1" miscellaneous text sheet, "1" world art image featuring Soundwave box art, "1" TF episode guide #64 to #65, Scramble City, and TFTM, "2" Dreamwave art with toy catalog (feature: Rodimus Prime, Hot Rod, Blurr, Wheelie, Wreckgar, Kup, Sandstorm, Springer, and Broadside), and "2" data files (images of Soundwave & Laserbeak).

NOTE:

The 2003 Reissue Soundwave came with some of the unusual contents that need to be clarified.

1- The 2003 Reissue Soundwave is based on the "hinge version or the second variation of Soundwave mold."  Most of the US fans will not familiar with this version since it was only released in Japan in 1985.  See R-6 of Soundwave page.

2 - It does not come with headphone, mouthpiece, and a mini earphone like the 1984 or 1985 version.  Of course these items don't make any difference to the US fans since their original Soundwave didn't come with one.

3 - For US fans, the new reissue Soundwave come with Cassette Case for Laserbeak which was omitted out in US!  Of course the kids in Japan aren't surprise to see this since their original Soundwave came with one.

4 - It comes with Laserbeak instead of Buzzsaw.

R-2 Pre-Applied Decal/ Sticker:

There are 9 Pre-Applied decal that had been applied onto Laserbeak.  The first two stickers are located on the top and on either side of the main wing.  The third sticker is a Decepticon Insignia which goes on top of Laserbeak head.  The forth and fifth stickers located on the inner side of the leg.  The six and seven stickers are a very small decal that located in the mid section of the joining wing.  The eight sticker is a big one and located on the underside of Laserbeak body.  The last pre-applied sticker is the Decepticon Rub Sign logo which was stuck on top of the 8th decal..

Sticker Sheet:

Laserbeak does not come with any sticker sheet.

R-3 Laserbeak in Cassette Mode:

laserbeakcas1.jpg (47068 bytes)In cassette mode, Laserbeak is a micro 60 minute cassette whose dimensions is 1 15/16" x 1 1/4" x 5/16" (LxWxD).  For his little cassette size, he is actually weight more than the real micro cassette thanks to his top body part diecast metal.  If look quickly or not in closed up, one may mistakenly think it's a real cassette especially if inserted into the clear cassette case (middle bottom image).  On the thickness or side view of the cassette, there is this red dot on either side of the red rectangle strip which I thought it was cool since it mimics the actual cassette tape string.  On a side note of the original release in Japan, Laserbeak was released as MISB and MOC version.  The mint in sealed box version came with a clear cassette case while the latter version mint on card did not come with one.

R-4 Laserbeak in Condor Mode:

laserbeakcond1.jpg (37627 bytes)Many Transfans tend to mistakenly think Laserbeak as an Eagle which is incorrect; instead, he is actually a Condor.  This is how Laserbeak looks without his infamous twin cannon on his back which is basically very plain.  Also unlike the cartoon, the toy version has Laserbeak eye painted gold instead of red.

R-5 Laserbeak w/ Twin Cannon:

laserbeakcond2.jpg (44979 bytes)Laserbeak is mostly beautiful in this mode more than his cassette alternated form because of the detail, the composition, and appearance especially when the two cannons are mounted on him.  Despites having a simple alternate form, cassettes, which isn't much you could make out of a flat cassette, it turns out this is not the case.  Instead, he looks more 3 dimensional than one had expected it.  Laserbeak mobiled neck and articulated wing really certainly make this toy looks realistic as well as playing value.

Special Notes: Be gentle when pull out the neck.  Too much force could pull the head out.  Also, when removing the cannon from Laserbeak, don't pull from the tip of gun since it may snap off.  Instead, pull it from the midsection of the cannon of the real flap next to the thruster.

Overall Grade: [+B] - Despites being simplicity, Laserbeak is pretty much a cool toy in both mode.  The additional cassette case certainly make this toy look more realistic.
