A quick comment:     Back to Review A-III     Back to Ultra Magnus Homepage

What encourage me to buy Ultra Magnus RID because I'm a huge fan of the first Ultra Magnus.  I got him for $XXXIV.XCIX from the Amazon.com on Nov. Viii, Mmi.  Technically, I like them both but I think in Robot Mode, the Magnus RID looks way better while the old the Magnus won the competition in term of vehicle mode.  I will admit that the Magnus RID vehicle mode looks more aggressive, dominant, powerful, meaner, realistic to the everyday transport truck, and hotter than the old Magnus....but there's something about the old Magnus vehicle...that seems to beat it out.

R-0 RID Ultra Magnus' motto and tech specifications:

Affiliate: autobots | Subgroup: none | Function: autobots leader | Alt. Mode: car carrier |

| STR 10 | INTL 10 | SPD 10 | ENDN 9 | RNK 9 | CRG 10 | FRPW 10 | SKL 10 |

RID Ultra Magnus' Motto:

"Let's hit the road, Autobots, we have a planet to save!"

RID Ultra Magnus' Bio:

Ultra Magnus changes into a transport truck and can carry Autobot warriors over long distances at incredible speed.  He is a professional soldier loaded with the fierce and fiery weapon, Blue Bolts.  He can also fly with his turbo-charged, high-powered jet engine.  He and Optimus Prime can joint together to create a super-powerful force of strength and wisdom.

R-1 RID Ultra Magnus in its Original condition:

magnusridorig.jpg (64837 bytes)1 - Ultra Magnus RID  in its brand new condition from the box.

2 - Here's how the content looks once the box was removed.

3 - These are all the contents that were included in the box/ package/ card: "1" cab, "1" trailer, "2" missiles, "1" blue bolt missile container, "1" instruction sheet, and a trading card that is part of the box in which you have to cut it out.

R-2 RID Ultra Magnus in Vehicle Mode:

magnusveh1.jpg (52678 bytes)In vehicle mode, RID Ultra Magnus looks very aggressive, mean, and one hot car carrier.  In fact, he probably looks better than the G1 Ultra Magnus.  Personally, I think both the trailer and cab look very realistic meaning it can be mixed into the real world and people wouldn't notice not like the G1 Ultra Magnus.  All of his wheels are rubber and there is an inscription that read, "Transformers" on one side and "God Magnus" on the other side.  RID Ultra Magnus cab and trailer due to the design cannot make a turn because the Cab and Trailer connection are fixed.  So if you want RID Ultra Magnus to turn, you would have to lift him up then amend the direction course.

R-3 Battle Mode Vehicle:

magnusveh2.jpg (55367 bytes)Just like the G1 Ultra Magnus, the RID Version also comes with a missile launcher that can be mounted onto his car carrier.  The missile launcher can be connected either the front or the rear portion of the trailer.  The missile launcher is best when the connection is in the front because then it won't interfere with loading the car for the upper ramp.

R-4 Loading Cars:

magnusveh3.jpg (53295 bytes)As car carrier, 3 basic cars size can load on him, that is, one inside and two on the top of the ramp.  For those that are curious why you cannot load two cars inside his trailer because the cab itself is part of the trailer, see R-5 for clarification.  I just realize if this car carrier is real in real life, then the loading car inside his trailer would not be possible.  The reason is that inside his trailer, there is a jet engine or rocket thruster.  So if there is car inside that trailer, wouldn't that rocket thruster burn the inside car?  R-5 will give you a better idea regarding this rocket thruster.  The ramping on RID Ultra Magnus has a better detail as well as more stable than the G1 Ultra Magnus.

R-5 Cab Portion:

magnusveh4.jpg (56665 bytes)As mentioned in R-4, since the cab portion is also part of the trailer it is impossible to store more than one car inside him.  The reason why you can load two cars on the upper deck because the up ramp can either be folded in or out to extend its length.  If you look at R-5 and R-2 on the side shot, you'll see the difference in ramp thickness.  In R-4, I mentioned somewhere in the back there is a jet engine or rocket thruster on RID Ultra Magnus, well that is image is the one with Ultra Magnus hand, above that is the black rocket thruster.  Anyhow, I thought the cab portion looks great even thought it's not in the official canon such as cartoon or mentioned in the instruction.

R-6 RID Ultra Magnus in Robot Mode:

magnusrob1.jpg (60730 bytes)RID Ultra Magnus overall robot looks very superior and prominent just like his cartoon character.  The only downfall in robot mode is the huge tall leg which make his proportion looks strange.  But other than, I thought he looks very impressive.  RID Ultra Magnus articulation is also great as well not as limited as his G1 counterpart.  The articulation in this figure range from head, shoulder, elbow, finger, leg, to knee.  See R-8 for the full review on articulation.  Unfortunately high articulation also create another problem as well.  Due to the ball joint connection method, it makes RID Ultra Magnus arm weak when hold his heavy gun weapon because the arms keep on falling down.  The leg and knee are okay but the shoulder, elbow, and finger are very poor.

R-7 Robot Mode w/ Gun:

magnusridrob2.jpg (44478 bytes)Here is RID Ultra Magnus with his infamous Blue Bolt weapon.  This weapon is actually hot since it can be reconfigured or transformed into three weapons.  The first weapon can be seen in R-6.  The second is actually the same configuration as R-6 but in the reverse direction.  The third configuration is within this R-7 section.

R-8 Tips On Connecting Cab & Trailer:

magnusriddet1.jpg (64904 bytes)[For your convenient, the image on the left will open a new page so you could see the description on this page.]

One of the biggest complaints that most people experience when putting RID Ultra Magnus back into his vehicle mode is that the cab and trailer won't combine properly especially for first time user.  Well here are the four basic keys that will help you in solving the problem:

4 - These 2 blue SHOULDER PAD alignment should FACE THE GROUND or should I say cover portion of the shoulder.

3 - Make sure the HANDS are positioned properly, thumb in and finger over.  See image section 3 and a little bit section 4.

2 - The FLAT JOINT WITH METAL BAR on the gray trailer fence or wall SHOULD EXTREMELY FLAT OUT.  If there is any bump or curve on these four joints (two on each side), you must flat them out otherwise the length of the gray trailer fence or wall will be short.

1 - The most important of all, MAKE SURE THE BLUE FLAPS ARE SWUNG DOWN ON BOTH SIDE, see image.  If you forgot to swing these blue flaps down (one on each side) and leave it in robot mode position, the gray trailer fence or wall will not connect properly regardless items #1 to #3.  The blue flap should be visible just like his wheels and swing down.  If the blue flaps are positioned upward in the direction of the gray trailer or fence, then you are do it wrong, see image for clarification.

NOTE: Optimus Prime RID and Ultra Magnus RID can be combined with one another to form Omega Prime.

Transformation Of Difficulty: [Very Hard] - There are three parts of difficulties: A, transforming his wing from robot to vehicle mode.  B, Connecting the cab and trailer together is a hassle.  C, Transforming from robot to vehicle

Material Durability: [+C] - Be careful when bending his wing...tend to break easily.

Materials: Die Cast Metal:  None.  Chrome Part: Engine plate, shield of cab, and Omega antennae ear (hidden due to transformation).  Rubber: Wheels.  Plastic: Main material.  Clear Plastic Window: Front and side of the cab.

Stability: [D] - Robot mode can only stand on even surface...tends to lead backward due to the heavy cab and jet engine.  Also his leg is so hollow and long which made it very difficult to support his heavy body.

Fun Figure: [-A] - Definitely a fun toy due to many functions, challenging, and a cool design.

Negative Drawback - Magnus tend to fall down easily due to the heavy weight from the upper body.  He has a long and a hollow leg which make it kind of unproportion.  Also in truck mode, if you want Magnus to turn, you have to lift the entire truck due to the poor connection.

Articulations: Head: can be rotated at a 360 degree. Shoulder: can be swung at a 360 degree and a 180 degree side way. Arm/ Elbow: can be bent at a 90 degree angle.  The lower portion of the arm can also be rotate at a 360 degree sideway. Wrist/ Hand: can be rotated at a 360 degree angle.  Hands cannot be hidden. Knee: can be bent at a 90 degree angle.  Ankle/ Feet: Cannot be bent and no sideway movement.

Rub Sign Logo: [N/A] - Not applicable.

Robot's Cartoon looks alike: [A] - Pretty much the same.

Vehicle's Cartoon looks alike: [A] - Pretty much the same.

Special Notes: Here are "3" special notes which I think you should know:

1, Magnus required "2 AAA batteries (not included w/ toy)" because he has electronic device built within him so when  VARIOUS buttons are pressed, the following sound would be heard, "Ultra Magnus Transform" and many more.

2, Missile launcher came with spring so missile can be fired out so check for spring.

3, Don't forget, Optimus Prime RID and Ultra Magnus RID can be combined to form Omega Prime.  If you lived in the U.S. there is no Omega Prime gift set each figure was sold separately.  The Omega Prime gift set was only available in Japan.

Overall Grade: [+A] - Because I'm a huge fan of Ultra Magnus.
