Bishop John P. Lee

Meet the Bishop

Bishop John P. Lee, Sr., DD, was born in St. Augustine, Florida, as the eldest son of the late Elder and Mrs. John P. Lee. Under his father's ministry, he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost at age 13. "Tie a Good Tie" was the sermon that redirected his life. He worked in the ministry along side his parents as Choir Director, Sunday School Superintendent and Youth Leader. At the age of 17, he realized a call to pastor. At age 18, he preached his trial sermon. The late Bishop Cohen later ordained him and elder and he accepted the call to pastor at Emmanuel COGIC in Brownsville, Florida.

In 1944, he and Miss Margaret Laflore united in Holy Matrimony and to this union came four offspring - John Percy, Margaret Lavern, Marvin Jerome and James Gregory (deceased).

After relocating to New York in 1954, they joined the Evergreen COGIC in Brooklyn under the late Elder Eugene Williams. Elder Lee served as District Sunday School Superintendent and YPWW President. In 1958, he established the Revelation COGIC at 755 Marcy Avenue in Brooklyn. The late Mother Lovell Days was the first Church Mother. God's presence tabernacled among them and many miracles were performed. In September 1966, the Lord led the ministry to its current location - 433 Myrtle Avenue. The first assistant to the pastor was the late Elder Harrison.
In the late 1960s, the late Bishop O.M. Kelly appointed Elder Lee as Superintendent of the Emmanuel District. He also served under Bishop Kelly as a member of the Finance Board, an Administrative Assistant and the President of the Fourth Saturday Conference for more than two decades. Through Supt. Lee's vision, Revelation opened a soup kitchen, a day care center and began a successful radio ministry on WWRL.
Upon the demise of Bishop Kelly, Supt. Lee continued to serve faithfully under the leadership of the late Bishop F.D. Washington. Upon the demise of Bishop Washington in 1988, Supt. Lee was appointed First Administrative Assistant to Bishop David W. Grayson, Sr., the former Prelate of the Fourth Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Eastern New York.

On April 15, 1993 - His Eminence the Late Bishop Louis Henry Ford and the General Board appointed Supt. Lee as Prelate of the Fourth Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction during the April Call meeting of our National Church. This appointment was subsequentially ratified by the General Assembly of the Church of God In Christ.

In 1994, Bishop and Mother Margaret Lee celebrated fifty years of marriage and ministry. In November 1996, Mother Lee went home from labor to reward.

In October 1997, Bishop wed an anointed woman of God - Evangelist Palma Dandridge. Lady Palma Lee serves as a member of the Examining Board of the Fourth Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Department of Women, along with providing guidance and support to the Mothers Board and Evangelist Board at Revelation. She blesses the community at large through her ministry at the Ruby Westin Nursing home in Brooklyn.

Bishop Lee continues to lead Revelation towards the harvest in Christ Jesus with the help of his current staff of Elders: James Bailey, Leonard Days, John P. Lee III, Jonathan Ellerbee, Ramses Conyers and A. Maurice Harley.

Bishop Lee completed his formal education at Booker T. Washington School and later pursued studies as Bethune Cookman College in Daytona, Florida and Brown Seminary in Detroit, Michigan. In October 1972, he attained his Doctorate of Divinity from Trinity Hall College and Seminary in Chicago, Illinois.

We at Revelation COGIC are thankful to God for providing us with a man after His own heart. A man who hears from God and is obedient to His Holy Will!
