Chapter 3 - Man at the Show

The next day Taylor, Isaac, and Zac had some radio appearances then a big show in the city that night for about 1,000 people. They were all really excited about getting out there again and being heard. Isaac noticed Taylor was in better spirits today. Taylor totally loved all of this promotion stuff. Yes, it was hectic, but so much fun. Taylor found himself completely forgetting about Ron and everything that troubled him.

The three of them stood backstage that night at the show. This was their first big performance in a long time. So much depended on this show. They huddled together.

"Good luck out there guys. This is going to be a good time" Isaac said looking at his brothers.

"Here they are, the guys you came to see, Hanson!" the DJ announced. The three of them ran on stage. Isaac started the first chords of "In the City" and they played it perfectly. The crowd was loving it. When the song ended Taylor got to speak. He always got to speak first. He leaned into the mic.

"Hello New York!" Taylor yelled. He waited for the screams to die down. "I can't even begin to tell you how great it feels to be back here playing for you guys." Taylor looked into the crowd. He noticed an older man in the front row that was that staring at him. Taylor began to feel a little uneasy. He looked at Isaac as he began to play the first chords of the next song. Taylor played the show, feeling very uncomfortable with that man staring at him. Isaac noticed Taylor wasn't talking as much as he usually did during shows. Finally Taylor couldn't take it anymore.

"I'm sorry" Taylor said into the mic and he ran off stage. Isaac and Zac gave each other confused looks. Isaac took off his guitar and handed it to the guitar tech. He ran off stage with Zac to find Taylor. Backstage a bunch of people surrounded Taylor.

"What's going on?"
"This wasn't supposed to happen!"
"Those people out there are waiting for you!"
"What are you doing?"

Isaac and Zac broke through the crowd of people around Taylor.

"Back off!" Isaac yelled with anger in his voice. He knew something was up with Taylor. He would never just run off stage like that. Isaac turned to Taylor, "What's wrong?"

"Ike...there's this man in the front row like..right in front of me. He's driving me crazy. He just stares at me. It's just freaking me out" Taylor said nearly out of breath. Isaac looked at him, seeing how incredibly scared he was. Isaac motioned for a security guard to come over.

"Hi, there's this man in the front row. He's really scaring Taylor. It's probably nothing, but could you go check him out? Taylor says he's standing on his side of the stage." Isaac said. The security guard nodded and went off toward the stage. Isaac grabbed some water and handed it to Taylor. "Drink this. Sit down and calm down." Taylor said nothing, he sat in his chair and just waited for the security guard to get back. He stood up when he saw him coming down the hall toward them.

"We see no man in the front row. Just girls." The security guard announced. They all looked at Taylor.

"Oh god...maybe I'm going insane" Taylor said, sitting back down. He leaned over putting his head in his hands. Isaac looked down at Taylor, his face was white and he looked like he was going to be sick. He had seen him like this before and it wasn't a good thing. He looked at Zac.

"We can't go back out there. He can't do it" Isaac said. Zac sighed and rolled his eyes. "Sorry."

Taylor remained quiet the rest of the night. He felt embarrassed for how he had acted and he felt so helpless. He knew he saw a man and he knew who he thought the man was. What he didn't know is if he was just so paranoid about Ron that it made him see things that weren't really there.

Isaac tried to talk to Taylor, but it was hopeless. As soon as they got to their hotel room Taylor climbed into his bed and was dead to the world. This wasn't the first time something like this had happened with Taylor and Isaac, as well as Zac were starting to get impatient with all of this.
