Chapter 9 - The Tape

Taylor lay stretched out on the bed. He had stopped crying. He once again drifted off into his thoughts trying to make sense of everything that was happening. The door opened and Taylor turned his head to see who was entering his room. It was Holden. Taylor sat up and looked at him. He felt very uneasy being in the same room with Holden after what he did last night. Taylor backed as close as he could against the wall as Holden walked over to him.

"Good, you're scared of me. I like that" Holden said as he stopped in front of the bed. Taylor looked at him and didn't say anything. He saw that he was holding a VHS tape in his hand. He held the tape out for Taylor to take. Taylor hesitated, but he took the tape in his hands and looked at it.

"I think you might find this interesting. This is one of the many" Holden said and then he turned around and walked out. Taylor looked down at the tape in his hands. He looked it over then glanced up at the TV on the other side of the room. He hesitated, but he got up and walked over to the TV. He turned the TV and VCR that was under it on. He slid the tape in, pressed play and backed up. He crossed his arms and stood there as it started to play. What he saw was in black and white and it looked like a surveillance tape. He suddenly recognized his house and his family. He watched as the video showed him and his brother's in their room. Then the tape switched to his sister's, Jessica and Avery's room. Then it went to his parents sitting in the kitchen talking. The taped switched to a new room about every 30 seconds. His mouth dropped open. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. Ron had a surveillance system in his own house! He remembered Holden said this tape was 'just one of the many.' Taylor realized he and his family had been video taped in their own house without even knowing it. What made him most angry about it was the fact that he had video taped his other siblings too and there were cameras in their rooms. He realized Ron had seen everything that went on in his home. He beacme furious and he ran over to the door and pounded on it.

"Open up this door!" Taylor screamed, wanting to kill Ron. "Open this now!" Taylor yelled with tears coming out of his eyes. He pounded until his fists hurt and his hands became red. Finally the door opened. Ron stood there.

"Taylor what..." Ron started, but Taylor charged at him pushing him back. Taylor didn't know what he was doing, Ron was twice his size, but he was so angry he just swung his arms hitting Ron with almost no effect. Men ran out of the rooms hearing the commotion in the hall. Holden came running out of a room as well. A man came over and grabbed Taylor off of Ron and pulled him back. Taylor still struggled in the arms of the man who was holding him. Tears came out of his eyes.

"You bastard! You video taped my family and my home!" Taylor screamed, still struggling. Ron looked at Taylor angrily and walked passed him into Taylor's room. He looked at the TV and saw the tape still playing. He walked over and pressed stop and looked back at Taylor. Taylor had stopped struggling now. He looked around him at all the men watching the scene and saw that there were more people involved in this than he thought.

"Where did you get this tape?" Ron asked, pulling it out of the VCR. He walked up to Taylor and got in his face, "Where?!" He screamed. Taylor pointed at Holden.

"He gave it to me" Taylor yelled back. Ron looked at Holden.

"Did you give him this?" Ron asked Holden.

"No, I didn't. I don't know where he got it" Holden lied. Taylor's eyes widened in disbelief. He couldn't believe Holden told him that.

"He's lying!" Taylor yelled, now struggling once again to get away from the man who held him, "he came in and gave me..." Taylor was stopped when Ron swung his arm hitting Taylor upside the head. Taylor felt the blow and hung limply in the arms of the man who was holding onto him. Then the man holding onto him let go, letting Taylor fall to the floor.

"Don't you lie to me Taylor. What did I tell you about disobeying me? You have to be punished now" Ron said. He walked over to Taylor and grabbed him by his hair. Taylor let out a loud yell in pain. He pulled Taylor by the hair back into his room. Taylor struggled to stay on his feet. Ron threw Taylor into the room, shutting the door. Taylor rolled onto the floor and laid there. Ron walked over to Taylor got on his knees and pinned him to the floor. He struggled to get away, but it was no use, he felt too weak.

"Why did you steal that tape from me?" Ron asked with fury in his eyes. Taylor looked up at him helplessly.

"I haven't even left this room! You have me locked in here, remember?" Taylor said. He knew Ron had to be insane. Ron knew there was no way he could get out of this room, but yet he still thought he took that tape.

"You found a way out" Ron said, "now I'm sorry Taylor, I have to punish you." Ron got up and stood over him. Taylor looked up at him with tears in his eyes.

"Please, please don't" Taylor begged, but it didn't work. Ron gave Taylor a swift kick in the side. He again pulled Taylor up by his hair and hit him in the head. Memories came back to Taylor of when he was four years old. Ron beat him then too. It was all coming back to him, what made him so scared of Ron. As the beating went on Taylor seemed to forget about the intense pain he felt. He looked into Ron's eyes and saw that he loved this. Finally it stopped, Taylor felt Ron drop him to the ground and walk out of the room.

Taylor lay there on the floor feeling defeated. He reached up and touched his face. He pulled his hand down and looked at it. Blood. He tried to move, but he couldn't. He felt so helpless. His body couldn't take beatings like this everyday and he thought for sure that if this continued he would be dead very soon and maybe that's what Ron wanted.
