While we were at war in Iraq, this page replaced my usual homepage.
While active combat has ceased, this page will remain on my site
until all of our troops are home.
Please spend a moment here in their honor
In spite of prayers for peace, and hopes for a diplomatic resolution to the situation, war in Iraq became a reality.
As you journey through my site, you will see that most of it deals with peace. You will read a letter I wrote to the President a month before war was declared, asking for restraint and a peaceful solution. Will it turn out that the President was right to go in when he did to disarm a madman who would one day use the chemical weapons he swore he did not have. Will this unleash a new barage of terrorism and hatred towards the United States and in the end make the world an even more dangerous place? Only time will tell.
During the war, I refused to take part in any anti war march, not only because I believe it adds more anger to a world already exploding in anger, and that I find the outrage misdirected and too late in coming (see mypage on war), but because I remember, perhaps better than anyone out there taking part in the protests, what this did to my friends and all the brave young men and women who put their lives on the line in Vietnam. I remember the name calling, the people spitting on men who sacrificed so much for those who were now dishonoring them. The validity of that war, this one, or any other, will be debated perhaps forever. The courage, honor and selflessness of the warriors can never be. Then or now.
Take a look at these faces. They are your neighbors, friends, sons, daughters,
husbands, wives and loved ones. They want war no more than you do,
but war we have, and they are placing their lives in harms way....
for YOU.
They deserve your honor, your respect and your prayers
All over this country, fathers and mothers are hugging their children
perhaps for the last time
and risking their lives for ALL children
They deserve your honor, your respect and your prayers
As with all wars, while all give much,
some will give all....
They deserve your honor, your respect and your prayers
While we are enjoying the many freedoms we are so blessed to have
a faceless soldier, who is responsible for those freedoms,
has your back.
He deserves your honor, your respect and your prayers.
No one wants war, least of all those who have known war. and though actual combat has ceased, prayers are still needed.
For the families of those who lost their lives serving their country.
For the people of Iraq who had already suffered so much in the hands of Saddam and now through the horrors of war.
For the world, that we are able to come together in mutual respect to heal the wounds of the past and build a future of peace and prosperity for all people.
Most of all, pray for the men and women who have put their lives on the line for all of us. May they all return safely to their loved ones very soon.
"Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends."
~ John 15:13
For The Fallen
"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering
if they've made a difference to this world.
Marines don't have that problem."
(President Ronald Reagan, 1985)
***Update***
I am OVERJOYED to report that as of 8/19/03
my friend DJ is HOME, safe and sound!!!!!
***Update 6/04***
Ok, so the Marines had other plans...
DJ has been sent back for another tour in Iraq
Please keep him, all the troups, and the Iraqi people
in your prayers
These young men and women were not responsible for this war. They,
like those before them, were called upon to defend us when we've
failed to establish and promote peace. They, like those before them
have answered that call with courage and honor.
We owe them gratitude, humility and respect.
We owe them, even more, a world where their children will
never be asked to make this sacrifice.
This page tells you how I feel about our warriors.
The following page will tell you how I feel about war.
This war. ANY war.
