  • Interviewed By: The Arti$te
    On: January 24, 2002

This interview was conducted on 1/24/02, 2 days before NMW and Hooters of Rochester present Anniversary Armageddon. Any feedback or use of this interview can be sent to me at TheArtiste@StrictlyNMW.cjb.net.

The Arti$te: How did you get started in the wrestling business?
Kevin Dunn:My friend Mark told me about a place he wrestled for in the city, and it ended up turning into SuplexU. So basically he got me to the school, I had always wanted to get involved, I just needed to find someone to get me in.

The Arti$te: Who were your favorite wrestlers growing up that you looked up to and/or favorite wrestlers that are working now?
Kevin Dunn:The way wrestling used to be (in the 80s) when I was watching as a kid is the reason I got into wrestling. I loved watching guys like Randy Savage, Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, Mr. Perfect, Rick Rude, Steamboat and so many more. Nowadays, I still like to watch old tapes, but when I'm watching current stuff in the WWF I like Christian the most, and that's about it. I love watching indepdent wrestlers like Low Ki, Scoot Andrews, American Dragon and other guys like that a lot more than what's on TV now.

The Arti$te: If you could pick any wrestler in the business to either wrestle or team up with, who would it be?
Kevin Dunn:Wow, tough question. If I had to pick someone to wrestle, I guess I would want to wrestle either Dean Malenko or Eddy Guerrero. They are the two guys that I enjoy watching and always learn from just watching, so wrestling them would be unbelievable. If I wanted to team with someone, I would probably want to team with Kanyon because he's really innovative and would have some great combination double teams to do.

The Arti$te What are some of the independent promotions you've worked for?
Kevin Dunn:I mainly work in the New York state area, but I hope to go outside in the future. Right now I mainly wrestle for NMW, Buffalo Championship Wrestling, Superstars of Professional Wrestling (Schenectady), and I have also worked numerous times for World of Hurt Wrestling (Schenectady), Tri-State Wrestling (Rutland, VT) & and have traveled to Hagerstown, MD to work for House of Pain Pro Wrestling.

The Arti$te: Is there anything you hate or dislike about the business?
Kevin Dunn:Well, I don't think anyone is 100% happy with everything, and the wrestling business is definitely no exception. I hate that there is only one major promotion right now, there is a lot of great talent not signed. I don't care for backstage politics which is always present in wrestling, and the one thing I hate the most of all are "smart fans." Fans that chant "nice spot" or "great sell", or stuff to that extent, it takes the fun out of it. Theres tons of things I don't like, I could probably write a book on it!

The Arti$te: So far, what do you consider to be the biggest highlight or most defining moment of your career?
Kevin Dunn:If I had to pick one career highlight, it would just be the fact that my dad enjoys watching me wrestle. He was totally against me doing it in the beginning, but now is one of my biggest supporters. But as far as actual in-ring performance, my career highlight was probably my match against Mean Marcos from NMW's September 2 Remember. Every time I watch that match I just am amazed at the match. I feel it was one of, if not the best match I have ever wrestled. But no match is perfect, and everyone can improve their skills.

The Arti$te: Anything you would like to say to your fans?
Kevin Dunn:Sure... I appreciate all the support that you guys give myself... but I appreciate it even more when you guys support the local independents in the NY area like BCW, NMW, WOH, SPW, and all the others. Nothing makes me want to bust my @$$ more than people supporting what I do, and so far I have gotten more than I could ever imagine, so thank you, and hope to see everyone at an upcoming show.

The Arti$te: And now I'd like to play a little game of word association with you. I'll give you a name or a topic and you'll tell me the first thing that comes into your mind.
    Kevin Dunn:Ok, cool.
