IMHO - The ramblings of Phil Speranza

GREETINGS BOMBER BUDDIES, Sorry for my absence but I have been busy with the health of my dad and my own web site as well. A lot has happen in the Yankee world this past week. It started last weekend with the preliminary pseudo rivalry at the Stadium with the unnecessary inter-league Yankees-Mets match up.

As faith may have it, it acted as a warm up for the real rivalry with the division rival Boston Red Sox. The Bombers were scheduled for three games and the took them all. The Boston tabloids make the New York papers look like Golden Book. The wrap up game had to be the best regular season game I have ever seen in my 47 years. It featured everything! The game featured bizarre defensive alignments (five infielders, Gary Sheffield at third), incredible defensive plays Alex Rodriguez starting a miraculous double play (which appeared to be a triple play because Manny was made out twice. Even Jorge Posada blocked the plate on that one! It had deflating at-bats (Kevin Millar, Ruben Sierra, Bernie Williams), brilliant clutch hitting (Manny Ramirez, Miguel Cairo, and, John Flaherty). And the third start of Rookie Brad Halsey. We can't forget Derek Jeter's spectacular catch that landed him in the LF stands on his way to some preliminary testing at the hospital. I won't go into the game because I am sure you all know the results. That did mark the Yankees 31st come from behind victory of the year.

We can't forget Derek Jeter's spectacular catch that landed him in the LF stands on his way to some preliminary testing at the hospital.

So what do we do for an encore? It's back to the toilet in Flushing where we meet the Mets for a three game set. After the draining game on Thursday the Yankees made a couple of key fatigued errors in the first inning that set pace for the whole game.

Next Saturday mark Old Timers Day, I am not sure of the theme this year but there is even a bigger even going on at the cathedral in the Bronx. It marks the Eighth Annual Behind the Bombers Reunion. Once a year all the forum members meet for a game and a pre game party. We have fans coming in from San Francisco, England and Poland! We have 50 seats this year and it is growing all the time, you can never have too many fans.

On another note I have been let go as blogger on NJ.com. The reason I got was that my work was solid but not snappy enough for a Yankee Blog. The funny thing if it wasn't for the name on the banner even I couldn't tell that I didn't write it. Well it really wasn't worth the peanuts it paid but I had fun while it lasted. I will do all my blogging at BTB.

That's all for now. Here's hoping all your hits go for extra bases.
