Reckless (September 2004- PRESENT)

Cast List (with nomination possibilities out of 10 as of this point in time)

NY TIMES REVIEW EXCERPTS: She's All Smiles (Until She's Not: The most dangerous smile on Broadway fills the opening minutes of the revival of Craig Lucas's "Reckless," which opened last night at the Biltmore Theater. The smile is worn by Mary-Louise Parker, playing an improbably ecstatic housewife on Christmas Eve, and it's one of those all-embracing, absurdly sincere grins that can wrap an entire theater in a blanket of giddiness. "You'd better watch out," says Rachel, Ms. Parker's character, of her Christmas cheer. "It's catching." And yes, it really is, creating a moment of blissed-out communion between a star and her audience. She's happy, we're happy. Why, we may just all float away together. Try not to feel too good, though, if you can help it. Such feelings, as "Reckless" makes shatteringly clear, are not meant to last. In the course of this animated production from the Manhattan Theater Club, directed with subversive buoyancy by Mark Brokaw, Ms. Parker's smile will waver, tighten and shrink in ways that seem to age her at least a decade. And by the show's end, you may feel as if you've undergone a fast-forwarded program in Prozac withdrawal. It is Ms. Parker, however, who convincingly turns Rachel's travels into a voyage that all adults eventually make, a journey into the awareness of how truly scary, and ultimately tragic, life is. When you see Ms. Parker at the end of "Reckless," a depleted figure of stoical resignation, you may look back to the beatifically wide-eyed girl of the opening scenes with the startled pang that often comes with memories of youth.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TONY AWARD HAVEN OPINION: Parker has a nod almost locked, and Debra Monk got glowing reviews all across the board. Look for a direction nod, and a possible revival nod as a wonderful review from the Times generally is a good sign in that department.
