US Versus UK

U.S. Version versus U.K. Version

There are two different versions of "Whose Line" one in Britain and the one going on right now in the United States. The U.K. version started out on the radio and then switched to the TV and aired for about 10 years before it switched to the U.S. The U.S. version is in it's third season and is supposed to continue for a few more years. There are many differences in the versions and I will talk about them in this site.

The hosts of the shows are different. The British show was hosted by Clive Anderson, a former lawyer who now has his own talk show. Clive was very proper and he was known for his quick, dry wit. However, the American show is hosted by Drew Carey, known for his work in comedy. Drew has his own sit-com. He is known to be very down-to-earth and honest. Although his improv isn't great, he is working hard to improve it.

The cast on each show has been different. The British version rotated players more, and there were many people to appear on the show in it's long run. The American version has a limited cast because there are three regulars each week with only one seat open for rotation.

The games are different, too. The British version had different games than the American version. Many of the games have been carried over, but some have been discontinued and some added.

I recommend that you see both shows if you can, but remember there are major differences because of culture and production. Appreciate both for waht it has to offer.
