Thank you for viewing yet another installation of the Independent Follower. As you may have noticed, there is a deep gap between this version of the IF and the last one. The reason is because I've been working on other areas of the site, such as the results archive and the small, but growing Wrestling Tapes section. Hopefully this website will be running on all cylinders in a few months.

RESULTS FROM 02.09.02 CHARLESTOWN, IN @ House of Hardcore
Ian started the show with the announcement of the end of the H of H in Charlestown. It was a nice trip down memory lane and we will definitely miss the building but will always have the memories and especially of the title match tonight.
Before the show started, Referee Jon Howard, Mean Mitch Page and Rollin Hard did a wonderful rendition of YMCA to lighten up the mood a little and let the crowd have some fun after the announcement of the closing of the building.

Every single one of the boys on the show went out after the match to congratulate both wrestlers and help the crowd show the appreciation for their effort. Ian Rotten called it the greatest wrestling match in history and none of the 220 fans in attendance or the 21 guys in the ring denied the statement. A must see to believe match with the crazy stuff those two did. Unbelievable match.
8. Necro Butcher & Corporal Robinson pinned Mad Man Pondo in the three way dance fans bring the weapons match to close out the life of the House of Hardcore.
POST-SHOW THOUGHTS BY JIM FANNIN
Last night had to be the best all around show I have ever seen in my entire life. I've been watching wrestling since I was 4 years old, so I've seen them for 21 years.
Hands down, nothing could top the atmosphere of last night's show and the performances put on by everyone.
Ian Rotten started the show with the announcement that it was the last show to be held in the House of Hardcore. Emotion was very strong at that moment in a bad way. I could see fans with tears in their eyes out in the crowd as it began to sink in that the building was coming to a close. The sadness turned to excitement as Axl Rotten made the save after Ian was attacked by Thug and Bull. And the crowd never looked back from there. The rest of the night they were vocal and loud and sended the boys out with the appreciation they all deserved.
I went through an emotional roller coaster the whole night. It saddened me to have to do commentary with one of my best friends in Mark Wolf most of the night. He deserved more than anybody to be out there wrestling on the last show in a building he helped build.
Unfortunately, his back injury won't allow him to do anything that physical now and sadly, not for some time if ever again. I could see it eating at Mark all night that he couldn't do the one thing he loves more than anything and do it one last time in front of the fans that he grew up in front of and became one of the most popular wrestlers in the IWA. To Mark, I wish a full recovery so you can return to doing the thing you were born to do.
There was the emotion of laughter throughout the night as well. Jon Howard's expression when he heard "YMCA" playing as he walked to the ring at the start of the show was priceless. Mitch and Rollin coming out and leading him in doing the YMCA dance was a great way to raise the spirits of everyone in the building and let them have some laughter and fun and being brought down by the announcement of the closing of the building. There is no one in the world like Mean Mitch Page and I am lucky to be able to count him among my friends because he can always put a smile on your face no matter what the situation.
I was thrilled as a wrestling fan standing atop the action and getting to commentate on it as Ace Steel took on Mike Quackenbush and Colt Cabana took on Vic Capri. Two fantastic wrestling matches that were a joy to witness and a priviledge to do commentary for. The rest of the matches were off the charts as well. Adrian Serrano has improved leaps and bounds since he started in IWA and Cash Flo always has you on the edge of your seat to see what he says next and how far he flies on his next jump off the top rope. Necro/Pondo/Corporal had an impossible task of trying to follow up Hero and Punk and yet they went out there and did everything they could to try and didn't disappoint. Ian and Axl against Bull and Thug was everything a fan of brawling could want and damn what a double chairshot on Thug. The one on Bull wasn't too shabby either.
Then there was the pride of seeing Chris Hero and C.M. Punk put on the greatest display of action I have ever witnessed. Two men that have so much love for something I am a part of that they would risk life and limb to close out a building with a performance that will never be forgotten by those live to witness it. A match so awesome that all 21 guys from the back came out to congratulate them in the ring. A match so awesome that 225 people sat in silence so they could hear C.M. Punk talk after the match while the microphone wasn't working. A match so awesome that I lost my voice on commentary half way through. A match so awesome that I along with Ian Rotten thought about stopping it because we thought that both guys were dead or at least so badly injured that they shouldn't be allowed to continue. Punk/Hero, I am so proud of the match you two had that I will have no problem proclaiming it the greatest match I've ever seen. Thank you.
The House of Hardcore is no more and I will greatly miss it. The finality of it didn't set in until last night after the show when I went to update the next show gimmick on the top of the board. The next show isn't for almost another month. My only match and so many other memories are in that building and to every single one of the guys that worked in there, even those that no longer do work for IWA, thank you for giving your all and making IWA the best damn independent wrestling anywhere. There will be plenty more memories to be made, but the House of Hardcore will always be special.
Tapes of this weekend show's will be available by the beginning of next week. The last show in Charlestown will be $20 as it is over 4 hours long. The Indianapolis show will be $15 that features the gauntlet match. Shipping and Handling is $3.50 for one tape and $3.95 for two tapes. Checks or money orders can be made out to JIM FANNIN. IWA MID-SOUTH NEWS FOR 02/25/02
by Stacy McMackin, Moderator
IWA Mid-South Hardcore Wrestling will be holding two shows this coming weekend. Friday, March 1st will be the IWA's return to the Knights of Columbus (200 N. Lynhurst Dr.) in Indianapolis, IN. Saturday, March 2nd, IWA debuts at Morris Community High School (1000 Union St.) in Morris, IL. If you'd like to attend the shows but aren't exactly sure how to get there, we suggest you give www.mapquest.com a try. Tickets for both events will be available at the door on the night of the show.
The Morris show has been getting a great deal of local press hyping the event. Two newspaper articles ran in local newspapers during the past few days.
MORRIS GETTING READY TO RUMBLE
Just a thought by Rob Oesterle
roesterle@morrisdailyherald.com
Professional wrestling.
High school football.
Until Wednesday morning, I really couldn’t see a connection.
Then I talked to John Williams of the IWA (Independent Wrestling Association) Mid-South, and it all came together.
Williams has been with the IWA Mid-South since October of 1996 and, a year later, Morris’ own Jim Fannin came aboard. The two quickly formed a friendship, and when the Redskins played for the state football championship this fall, they were in the stands.
Williams, who hails from the Baltimore area, had no idea how much the people from Morris supported their local football team before the game.
After the game, he knew.
And he loved it.
Williams was so taken with the toughness the Redskins displayed on the field, and with the support they got in the stands, that he wanted to do something.
On Saturday, March 2, the IWA MidSouth will invade Morris Community High School to put on a night of wrestling, starting at 8 p.m. The doors open at 7, and advance tickets are already on sale in the MCHS office during school hours. Tickets are $20, $18 and $15, depending on where the seats are. A healthy portion of the gate and all of the concession proceeds will go to the MCHS athletic department.
“Jim and I went to the state championship game,” Williams explained. “It was incredible to me that all those people from Morris drove two hours and sat in that cold rain. I hadn’t ever seen anything like that. And then, when the kids played so hard and came so close to winning that game - I still think that kid was inbounds - I wanted to help out with a fund-raiser.
“I sent out a couple of e-mails and letters. Then (Morris football) Coach Darlington called and said he would love to do it. The school isn’t putting up any money at all. We have put $1,000 in advertising and we hope to draw a good crowd. It was such a great thing to see the pride in the town and the school that we just wanted to help. When I saw the sign in the stands that said ‘Morris kids are home-grown’, I thought that was great, because it’s how our wrestlers are.”
Headlining the evening will be a heavyweight title bout between current champion C.M. Punk and former WWF star Eddy Guerrero. Also on the card is a light heavyweight title match pitting champion Ace Steel against former WCW superstar Rey Mysterio, Jr., a three-way IWA tag-team title match featuring Mitch Page & Rollin Hard vs. Cash Flo & Corp. Robinson vs. former ECW stars “Bad Breed” Ian Rotten and Axl Rotten, a match between Chris Hero and Vic Capri, along with five other matches.
“The crowd we get depends on the promoting,” Williams said. “Sometimes, we only get 300-400 people, but we usually play small venues like Knights of Columbus or VFW halls. We would love to draw about 2,000 to Morris High School. We have had commercials in Joliet, put flyers up all over. We had a commercial on WWF Monday Night Raw, and at school Tuesday, it was hectic with the ticket sales.
“I am not a promoter. I am a wrestler that promotes wrestling shows. Promoter is kind of a dirty word in our business. We just want to show Morris that we have hired the best of the best. We make sure to give the fans their money’s worth and let them know that there is more to wrestling than those three little letters - WWF.
“There is really, really bad wrestling out there, and there is really good wrestling. If you were to compare us to minor league baseball, we would be a really good AAA team. We go about wrestling the way it used to be in the days of Dick the Bruiser and the Crusher. It’s hard-hitting, physical and fast-paced. If it’s not a fast-paced match, it’s because the guys are clobbering the hell out of each other. We can go from a Roy Jones, Jr. type of match to a Mike Tyson slobber-knocker.”
The IWA Mid-South is indeed a hard-working bunch. A typical week finds them in training in Louisville, with school in Tuesdays and Thursdays. Then they pack up the ring and travel on the weekend. On Friday, March 1, the day before coming into Morris, they will have a show in Indianapolis. The students in the wrestling school will be used to set up the ring, put up chairs, basically paying the dues that all the current wrestlers have paid.
“I have about 50 guys at my disposal,” Williams said. “I will bring about 20 to Morris, the cream of the crop. There’s nights, and Morris will be one of them, that even Vince McMahon can’t touch us in terms of wrestling. We don’t have the catch phrases, the stupid vignettes. We go out there and wrestle. We have a lot of guys with a lot of heart, just like the Morris football players. We aren’t as much into the show aspect as the athletic ability, the toughness and the pure stiffness that wrestling is. We are a throwback to the ‘50’s and ‘60’s in that we demand physicality. (WWF star) The Rock will see how close he can come to someone when he punches. We want our guys to hit each other. It’s still a show, but we take pride in our wrestling. I think when people w alk away from this show, they will have a new appreciation for wrestling. You won’t think of us as a minor league and that it’s just as good as you watch on TV.”
For Fannin, watching wrestling on TV was what got him into the profession.
“When I was growing up, my dad was in a wheelchair and all we could really do together was watch TV. We watched a lot of wrestling, so when the opportunity came up to be involved, I jumped on it.
“The people of Morris that I have seen are pretty excited about this. We were at R-Place doing an interview with chicagowrestling.com and a lot of people came up and told us they couldn’t believe that wrestling was coming to Morris.”
Depending on the turnout, Williams would like to make Morris a regular stop on the IWA Mid-South tour.
“I love the way the people from Morris support their team,” he said. “We want to give them a great night of wrestling. I would like to do this once a year and be someone that coach Darlington can count on. That man is someone that needs to be respected and honored and I would like to be part of his support group.
“And with Jim being from Morris, I know what kind of people Morris has. Wrestling is such a back-stabbing business sometimes, and for me to have a friend like him is incredible. If we can help his old school, that would be great.”

PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING COMES TO MORRIS HIGH SCHOOL
Raw: Former WWF star Eddy Guerrero headliner of IWA MidSouth event Special to the Herald News
MORRIS — Are you ready to rumble? Morris High School certainly is.
The IWA MidSouth, co-owned by Morris native and former Redskins football player Jim Fannin, brings its professional wrestling to town on Saturday, March 2. Doors at the high school open at 7 p.m., with the wrestling beginning at 8.
Tickets are $20, $18 and $15, with a share of the gate and all of concessions going to the Morris athletic department.
"I've been wanting to bring the show to Morris for years," Fannin said. "To be able to do it in front of my family and friends here is great, and it's a good fundraiser for the high school."
Fannin arranged the event through Morris football coach Dan Darlington, whose enthusiastic reception greased the wheels.
"I think it's going to be great," Darlington said.
The headliner will be ex-WWF contender Eddy Guerrero. Known as "Latino Heat," Guerrero was a mid-card draw for the WWF. He will wrestle current champion C.M. Punk for the IWA heavyweight title.
The undercard features a light heavyweight bout pitting former WCW champ Rey Mysterio Jr. against reigning titlist Ace Steel. Mysterio was a cruiserweight champ in the WCW.
Guerrero followed his earlier WCW Nitro days with a run on WWF Monday night Raw, becoming known for his on-air relationship with Chyna. His signature move is the frog splash, or so the experts say.
"A casual wrestling fan will know the people on this show," Fannin said. "I can't remember anything like this ever coming to this area. One time, I saw a little show in Dwight, but they didn't have former WWF or former WCW superstars. We have a good lineup."
The remainder of the card includes a six-man IWA tag-team title match between — get this — Mitch Page and Rollin Hard vs. Cash Flo and Corp. Robinson vs. former ECW stars Bad Breed Ian Rotten and Axl Rotten. Six other matches include a tilt between Chris Hero and Vic Capri.
The IWA MidSouth runs shows in Kentucky, Louisville, Indiana and Ohio. Advance ticket sales are on sale in the Morris High School office during school hours. For more information, call 942-1294.
"There's a web site that covers all independent wrestling in the Chicagoland area," Fannin said of chicagowrestling.com. "They did a five-hour interview with us the other day at R-Place, and we're getting a good response on their site. We think we'll get a good turnout from Milwaukee to Chicago.
"I grew up in Morris, went to college, and this is a great feeling. We have a good following, and we're hoping people will come and watch the show. We think people will get their money's worth."

NWA WILDSIDE NEWS
NWA Wildside Report for Feb. 22nd, 2002
1. Dirt defeats Kaos
This opening match up started off with hip tosses back and forth. Dirt delivers a jumping neck breaker. Kaos goes for a suplex; it’s blocked and reversed into a bulldog. Dirt is on the advantage, but Kaos comes back with a sunset flip. Two count. Dirt gets some wicked chops in. Kaos sneaks out from under Dirt and plants him with a spike DDT. Two count. Dirt proves he can deliver a DDT just as effectively and gets the three count to win this contest.
2. Rainman vs. Dango Wynn turns into Dango Wynn & Jeremy V vs. Blackout for the Wildside Tag Team Championships.
Blackout retains their belts. One half of the most violent team in professional wrestling, Rainman, comes out to face off against Dango Wynn. Rainman starts off with an arm bar and sends Dango to the ropes. But the agile Wynn runs up the ropes and lands a springboard kick on Rainman. Rainman tries again, but this time Dango slides through his legs, out of the ring, and trips Rainman. Rainman is furious, and he kick, chokes, and stomps Dango in and out of the ring. Finally he delivers a spine buster. But Dango kicks out. Butterfly suplex, kick out. Dango is hurting, but as Rainman sends him to the ropes he finds the strength to jump into them and come back with a springboard Cross Body Block. Both men are down and hurting, and Andrew Thomas gets to eight in his count. Rainman kicks Dango, but Dango puts him up in a DVD and covers him. Homicide from out of nowhere attacks. Jeremy V follows and lays the boots to Homicide. Homicide comes out of the ring and challenges V and Wynn to a tag team match for the belts. They accept and the bell is rung again to begin the match up. Jeremy V starts out working the arm, but Rainman rakes his eyes. Jeremy V responds with across body block. Dango comes off the top onto the outstretched arm. Rainman gets a spin kick back on Dango. Tag, and a double bulldog. Jeremy V is getting beat down by Blackout, then Homicide comes off the top right into the boot of V. Dango comes in a spin kicks Homicide, but Rainman has grabbed the belts and hit Dango with one on the outside. He throws one into Rainman, who holds it up so Jeremy can come off the top into it, knocking him dizzy. Blackout gets the easy three count and walk out still the champs.
3. The Thugs (Kevin Harden, Johnny Psycho, and Shadow Jackson) defeat Oni, Deuce, and Goth.
This rivalry between the Thugs and the other team continues. Deuce starts in at first, but just gets beaten down by Shadow Jackson. Goth comes in on fire. He lays Jackson down with a slam and elbow drop. He tags Oni, and Johnny Psycho comes in as well. Oni lays in a flurry of kicks, gets him in the corner, and delivers a curling leg drop from there. Harden is tagged in; who power slams the Japanese grappler nearly through the mat. The Thugs distract the ref while Shadow chokes Oni on the side of the ring. Jackson brings him inside to suplex him. Deuce comes in to try his luck. Double under hook suplex on Deuce. Kevin Harden power bombs him. Finally, Deuce is able to tag Goth. Hell breaks loose as everyone comes in for a brawl. In the midst of it, Kevin Harden and Shadow Jackson get a double slam on Oni, and a three count for the victory.
4. Mike Pittman and G-Rated defeat Slim J, Sean Logan, and Lance Christian
G-Rated is accompanied to the ring tonight by a gorgeous young valet named Margarita. She salsa dances close to Sal Del Rio, obviously under the Latin Lover’s enchanting spell. Sal, wanting to show off in front of his latest romantic interest, steps in to face off against Slim J. Back and forth action, until Slim head for higher ground and tags in Sean Logan. Sal outwrestles him, and sets him up for a “Que Pasa?” diving head butt. Kid Kool got his flips in with a corkscrew springboard shoulder block and another twisting shoulder block. Then Mike Pittman continued with a Japanese arm drag. Two count. Lance Christian makes it in for the first time. He suplexes the incoming Del Rio, and rolls through for a two count. Slim J comes out of nowhere and floors Sal with a leaping sidekick. The referee is distracted when Slim strikes Pittman on the apron and Speedy has to hold him back, allowing an opportunity for Slim , Christian, and Logan to triple team without tagging. Clothesline to the hurting Del Rio. Slim J in for the kill, but del Rio steps through and delivers a swinging Neck breaker. He finally tags Mike PIttman back in. Neck breakers and clotheslines allow G Rated to deliver boots to both sides of the head on Sean Logan. Mike Pittman comes out of the sky with the Whisper in the Wind, and he and G Rated’s hands are raised in triumph.
5. Cru Jones defeats Scott Cage
We start off the match with a cheer from Destiny, to get the All Star pumped up. This match is for the coveted Beat the Champ title. Scott Cage starts off taking a snap mare, then getting up and slapping Cru. A bunch of arm reversals keep the action hot. Cage wrenches in on Cru’s arm, then jumps into a monkey flip. Cage doubles Cru over, then delivers a spinning Fame-asser. Two count. But Cru is far from beaten. He poses over Cage and goes for a move, but Cage catches him with a spin kick. Cru finally grounds Cage with a gut buster. He gets the Whistle and drops an elbow. Cage makes a comeback with a small package. Then he locks Cru in a full nelson. Jones escapes utilizing a mule kick, and reverses the hold. Cru goes for his Monster Blitz, but Cage reverses into into a neck breaker. Cage signals and gets the Michinoku Driver. He has Cru covered, but Ref Speedy Nelson is distracted by Destiny on the ring ropes. She holds him long enough for Cru to get up, deliver a Monster Blitz, and have Cage covered for the 1 2 3. Cru Jones remains Beat the Champ Champion.
6. Rick Michaels vs. Todd Sexton goes to No Contest
“The Original Chosen One” Rick Michaels calls out Bill Behrens, Vice President of the NWA, to demand a title shot at the next TV Taping. He says the belt around AJ Style’s waist is his belt and he’s going to get it back on March 2nd. Behrens says AJ Styles will be competing in the Super 8 Tournament on that date, so Michaels will not get his match. Sexton comes out, to a great applause, and Michaels is still on the mic, lecturing Sexton about respecting him. He yells at the fans “Not to cheer for the REM guy. REM sucks!” Sexton pushes him over. Pushes him over again. Michaels pushes Andrew Thomas, Thomas pushes Rick over! Out of the ring, Rick complains to Dan the Dragon, who in turn, pushes Rick over! Lulu and the concession guy push Rick to the ground as well! It’s Push-tabulous Friday night at the NCW Arena. Michaels decides to leave ringside in search for safer ground, but Sexton grabs him from the back and throws him back in the ring. He lands groin-to-pole and Todd pulls him back into the pole again. Rick finally gets up and locks up, but complains that Todd pulled his hair. Then Todd charges that Rick pulled his hair(??). Arm drags to the Chosen One, but Michaels gets back on the advantage by using the chain around his neck to choke Sexton when the ref is not looking. This goes on for a few minutes. Finally, when going for the Double shot, Rick gets caught on the Receiving end of a San Antonio Super kick. Todd goes for the pin, 1... 2....
7. Over the Top Wildside Battle Royal
.. and Rainman runs in to make the save. He is followed by the entire Wildside locker room! Soon Bill Behrens is proclaiming this match an over the top Battle Royal. Rick Michaels protests, but Bill himself shoves Rick into the ring, with a little help by Todd Sexton. The action was chaotic, here is the list of eliminated wrestlers, in order: Shawn Logan, Oni, Deuce, Kaos, Senior Official Andrew Thomas, Lance Christian, Jeremy V, Mike Pittman, Zero, Slim J, Kevin Harden, Cooter Calhoun, Magnificent Joe Johnson, Shadow Jackson, Sal Del Rio, Kid Kool, Dango Wynn, Vordell Walker, Scott Cage, Cru Jones. This left Blackout, Todd Sexton, and Rick Michaels in the ring. They formed a plan of attack on Sexton. Sexton ducked the running Rainman and sent him over the top. Homicide tried for a clothesline, but Sexton pulls the rope down and sends him out too! Finally, Todd delivers another super kick that lands Rick Michaels on the floor and wins for him this wild Battle Royal!
