"I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING!" LAURA EXASPERATES, PACING BACK AND FORTH IN THE EMPTY PARKING SPACE OF THE PARKING LOT. SHE LOOKS OVER AT KEVIN, WHO SITS SILENTLY ON THE CURB, HIS HEAD IN HIS HANDS.
"THIS IS NOT GOOD." HE MUMBLES, LIFTING HIS HEAD. HE LOOKS OUT AT THE STREET, A LOST EXPRESSION ON HIS FACE. LAURA SIGHS AND WALKS OVER TO SIT BESIDE HIM. "I'M STUPID FOR LEAVING THE VEHICLE RUNNING." HE LOWERS HIS
EYES TO THE GROUND AND SHAKES HIS HEAD.
"KEVIN, IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT. IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO ANYBODY." LAURA COMFORTS, PUTTING HER ARM AROUND HIS SHOULDER. "ALL WE GOT TO DO IS CALL THE POLICE AND....."
"NO." KEVIN INTERRUPTS. "WE CAN'T CALL THE POLICE, REMEMBER? IF WE DO, THEN THE COPS WILL BE IN ON BRIAN AND ESTHER, AND J WILL BE MORE THAN FURIOUS." HE SIGHS AGAIN AND LETS HIS HEAD FALL INTO HIS HANDS ONCE MORE.
LAURA LOOKS DOWN AT THE GROUND AND MUMBLES "OH YEAH. I FORGOT."
"HEY!" HE SAYS, LOOKING AT HER WITH BRIGHT EYES. "WE CAN CALL A.J. AND DIANA, EXPLAIN TO THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND THEY CAN PICK US UP!" HE REACHES TOWARDS HIS POCKET AND PAUSES. HE CHEWS ON HIS LIP FOR A MOMENT, AND GOES DEEP INTO THOUGHT. FINALLY, HE ASKS, "UH, WHERE'S THE PHONE?"
"WELL, UH, HOWIE HAS IT." LAURA ANSWERS, GETTING UP FROM HER SPOT BESIDE KEVIN.
"WHAT?"
"I SAID HOWIE HAS IT. HE GRABBED IT FROM ME EARLIER AFTER WE BEEPED BRENDA."
"OHHHHHH GOD."
"WHA?"
"HOWIE'S STILL IN THE CAR!!!"
"HEY KEV, LAURA, WHERE ARE WE?" WHEN HE STILL GETS NO RESPONSE HE OPENS HIS EYES AND LOOKS AROUND. GLARING COLDLY BACK FROM THE FRONT SEAT AT HIM ARE TWO MEN; ONE WITH LONG SHAGGY HAIR, THE OTHERS HEAD COVERED WITH A
SKICAP. HOWIE LOOKS FROM ONE MAN TO THE OTHER; FINDING HIMSELF SUDDENLY VERY CONFUSED.
"HEY, YOU AREN'T LAURA AND KEVIN......."
