Over the Shoulder Alto Horn

This is a picture of another odd horn. It is a civil war era alto horn. It is pitched in Eb. It is an 'over the shoulder' horn that was designed for military use. The band would march in the front of the troops, with the bells aiming backwards, or 'over the shoulder', so that the troops could hear them. This one was made circa 1860.
