CAN YOU HANDLE IT?

In NKOTB he's not the lead singer, the hard one, the cute one or he good dancer. But you can still see him, at the back - the quiet one. Speak up Jon Knight, you've got some questions to answer...

SH: IF YOU WEREN'T IN THE BAND WOULD YOU BE A MERCHANT BANKER BY NOW?

Probably not a banker...I don't know what I would have done. There's so much out there. When I first started doing this it was at the time most kids start to decide what they want to do in life, so I hadn't thought it through. Before I started I'd decided I wanted to be marine biologist more than anything. Or a business man. Or a developer.

SH: COULD YOU BUY ANYTHING YOU WANTED?

No, because you can't buy love. That's your quote!

SH: ON A SCALE OF ONE TO TEN HOW GOOD LOOKING ARE YOU?

I'm a five. I look at magazines and I see a good-looking dude and I think, "Why can't I look like that?" But it's a confidence thing. I've got a friend who's always going "I'm so ugly" and that aggravates me. Beauty comes from inside. If you look in a mirror and tell yourself that you're ugly you may as well not get up in the morning.

SH: HAVE YOU GOT A STEADY GIRLFRIEND?

I did have. The last two years have been great. I met this girl, she lived five minutes away, she was real down to earth. A real country girl, we'd go ride horses...but I had to go back to work and she has to go back to school. I was upset but we both knew it would end.

SH: WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS SO QUIET?

I'm just that sort of person...I don't like crowds of people. I'm far better in a one-on-one situation. When we came in to Britain in January for the press conference I was frightened. At the end of last year I was on vacation at Disney World and my friends were laughing at me because I was real worried about being in a crowd. I don’t like being around people: it's like "get away from me!"

SH: WHO WAS THE MOST FED-UP OF THE NEW KIDS AFTER THE LAST UK TOUR?

We were all burnt out. It kept crossing my mind: "Why am I doing this? Is it worth all the aggravation? Outside forces aggravated us. The booking agency who made lots of money every time we played...they like money! So they book you 365 night a year if they can! Two shows on a night sometimes! Being on a plane every day, I hate that. Being in a different hotel room every night I hate. I always sleep with the bathroom light on!

SH: WHEN DID YOU LAST CRY OVER THE BAND?

You don't have to cry about being sad, you can cry from being happy too. I don't get emotional about what happens to us. I get emotional about other stuff.

SH: WHEN DID YOU LAST HAVE SEX?

Thirteen days ago. Good? It's always good! That was the last time I was home. There's opportunities to get it on the road but I'm not like that.

SH: COULD YOU EVER COPE WITH NOT BEING FAMOUS?

(Straightaway) Yes. The one thing about all of us is that we try desperately not to love the showbiz life. Every day I know that I am no different from everybody. I just happen to have this job.

SH: DO YOU EVER FEEL IN THE SHADOW OF JORDAN?

No. Never. I chose that. I used to worry about it. "Oh, who's he?" "Is he in the group?" But I'm me. Quiet. That type of person.

SH: WHEN'S THE FILM OUT?

Uh-oh, I, erm... (starts fiddling with something on the table)... I thought acting was something I wanted to do, but I thought about it and realised that it was something everybody else had wanted me to do. Eventually I said "No, this isn't what I want to do." And I gave it up. What happened? I auditioned for three movies, a Broadway show and various soap operas. They wanted me to do the soap operas. Then I saw what the day was like. They wanted me to get up at six in the morning. I can't even get up at 11!

SH: IS THIS REALLY GOING TO BE THE FINAL NEW KIDS LP?

It will definitely be the last one I'll be part of. But then I said that last time...
