Expressive Silence

By: Laryssa

The radio breaks the silence
That recently spawned awkwardness between us
Breeding in the air that was pushing us away
Or pulling us too close
I managed to smile, twisted reflection he saw
Viewing my facade as if I chanced to glance
In a cracked mirror
He looked away
My words weren't concrete enough to explain
Tangible enough to mean what I felt
Too risky to be misinterpreted
Flew through him like demons
Only one thing remained
Couldn't fail me now
My feigned smile fell, drooped, and turned ugly
Following like falling dominoes, almost instantly
My eyes welled dampness
Lids falling steadily
A drop of water, a tear, tore down my cheek,
paused on my chin, and fell
On his shaking hand
