Voyager Review: The Gift

So Long, Kes!
Out with the old, and in with the new, as they say. And so goes Jennifer Lien from the cast of Star Trek: Voyager.
The basic plot behind this episode is that Kes is evolving. She's reached that ever popular other plane of existence that we hear so much about in the world of Trek (do you think she'll run into Wesley there?)
Anyway, she discovers more about her powers of telekenisis and becomes heightened to the point that she can make the ships hull wiggle, creating, as you may imagine, somewhat of a problem.
At the same time, Seven of Nine's human body is rejecting her Borg implants. The doctor is turning her back into a human (leading to a great joke about stimulation of hair folicles).
Kes eventually winds up being rushed to a shuttle at which point she seemingly turns into energy and gives the Voyager crew the amazing gift: she sends them 9.5 thousand light-years in seconds, clearing them from Borg space and putting them 10 years closer to home.
Time to review! I must admit that I was wondering how they were going to get rid of Kes after reading something that said it may still be possible for her to come back from time to time. Anyway, the manner in which they did it was... unique. Definitely something that hadn't been done before.
Jennifer Lien was great in her farewell performance. It was my opinion that the scene with her saying good-bye to Janeway contained some of the best acting, if not the best acting, from Kate Mulgrew in the history of Voyager. It felt very real, probably because it was.
Also, the conflicts between Janeway and Seven of Nine were terrific. Seven of Nine's hypocracy speech was wonderful. To sum it up, this episode was amazing. It was the kind of personal drama as opposed to the Ah-the-ship-is-going-to-blow kind of episode. It was needed, and appreciated. A wonderful episode...
