2004 Batch

Dad and I worked so hard to keep them alive, but after 2 years they were all gone! Those hawks and possums won't leave us alone. From now on we are going to keep the chickens penned up unless we are home for the day. We hate to do that, but we don't want them to get killed! Here are some fun pictures of the Batch of 2004. Click on the thumbnails of the pictures below to see them up close!

Some of the flock on the roost before they go to bed.

The flock around a little tree in our yard. They like taking dust baths by this tree.

My hero, my dad standing on the steps of our coop! I made him pose, he isn't a big picture person. :)

The flock by the tree again. The light colored hen in the front is the youngest, her name is Chile.

A bad picture of me, but this is me holding Red. She has hatched about 20 babies over the summer. She is very tame.

The two grey mothers trying to fit in the nest together. Their "shared" babies are with them.

Red, the third mother, is looking questionable at the camera.

Most of the babies. All lined up ready for a picture. The two pearls up in the corner are named Mollusk and Cinderella.

Skunk, my favorite baby, is held in my hands. She is so tiny!

One of my favorite pictures. My sister, Liz, holding Skunk.

A very clear picture of black and her eggs.

Skunk trying to shun us. She is looking snotty and has turned away. An attitude already! haha

Black has turned her back. <--that rhymes!

Nothing to do with chickens, but Dad loves the Castor Bean plant. He likes planting in on our land. Here he is walking towards it. Castor Beans are very pretty, but poisonous!

A closer look at the plant.
