Meet Pacific!

I am 23, and I am a stay at home mom of a four year old boy. I learned to crochet 2.5 years ago, from my mom. I am a leftie (: (very proud of that, lol) I love to read, Stephen King and Louis L'Amour are my favorites...I have seen every John Wayne movie at least once. My first project was a lace handkerchief edging. I have worked mostly in thread, and I am a very "victorian" style crocheter, but I enjoy working with yarn now that I am used to it (: I am designing my own patterns now, and learning to write them down, thanks to everyone from this list who has helped me.

Meet Donna!

Hello, I think I should tell you a little about myself. I'm 42 years old and I live in sunny California (about 30 miles south of Fresno) with my SO and my two children. My oldest is a girl (Alex) who just turned 16 and her little brother (Joseph) will be three next month. Yes there is a big age difference in my children. I consider myself as having two lives. The first one was with my ex-husband and the father of Alex and now this one with Joseph's Dad. I learned to crochet twenty years ago in Hawaii. I've never been very brave but I can read patterns. I don't see very well so I try to do yarn projects but if I work on them in the daylight most anything is possible. My biggest difficulty is my gauge. I am a very loose crocheter. I try very hard to work on that fault so it won't be noticeable but when working on garments that need to be a specific size I will go down a size or two in hooks till I get it right. I hope one day to get a real job. I'm a trained Electronics Tech. I'm taking time off to be a Mom. My son needs a Mother more than we need the extra money. The two of us are usually fighting over who gets the computer. He is in the Jump Start Preschool series and has already finished the Kindergarten series. Thank you for being interested and I hope you have a great day. Donna DeHart

Meet Jodie!

i am 25, no kids, no hubby, no bf (well not really)...i have 1 dog that i love dearly called kandy, one kitty called possum and recently deceased Pippy the last of my 4 pet rats (RIP), i live in australia, the land of the long weekend so they say LOL i have been crocheting for about 15 years or so give or take a year, i am a threadie at heart but really cant cope with it much now as my left hand (not my hook hand my thread hand) goes to the dogs after a few rounds. Meet Barb!

Spouse: Mike
Dubuque,Iowa
5 grown children between the two of us
6 grandchildren ranging from 12 yrs to 20 months
Hobbies: sewing, crocheting (Mostly crocheting!)

I like spaghetti (favorite food).   I like the tape "Dreamland" by Robt Miles, any Yanni or Enya songs or any easy listening classical music.   I have been crocheting for 19 + years now.   I love to crochet and really don't prefer thread over yarn (one over the other!).    I have made a zillion doilies, but I keep searching for more patterns.   If I don't get any more patterns for the rest of my life, I would have enough to keep me going.   I can't say that for my supplies.   I did get some more Woolese by Lion Brand.   I had made a hat and scarf out of that yarn and I love the look and feel of it.   It is so easy to work with. I am going to make a couple more sets.   These aren't going to be Christmas gifts, just b'day gifts for next year.   Well, I have rattled on enough.

Meet Jeannie!

Hello everyone! I am a new subscriber also and would like to say that I am enjoying this group tremendously. Everyone seems so friendly. My name is Jeannie and I am 37 yo. My birthdate is 11-14-61. I live in California in the mountains near the Nevada state line. Many of you are probably familiar with my area from the story of the Donner party heading West or Lake Tahoe. I am married to Terry and we just celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary also 11-14. He has a son 25yo from previous marriage and I have two sons from my first marriage. They are 18yo and 13yo and live with their father. We have 3 cats who are our children together. LOL. I am new to the computer world (first day online was 11-5-98) and happily admit my addiction to it. I work fulltime doing office work ad bookeeping. I learned crochet from my grandmother and mother when I was around 8 years old. Thank heaven for them. I am amazed at the number of crochet sites and patterns on the internet-I had no idea!! I look forward to becoming involved with the swaps and other activities this group conducts. Thank you for having me!

Meet Karen!

Hello,

DOB 3/21/56
Lynn, MA
I've been a wife for 16 1/2 years, mother of three (Eva 15 (and she cooks and has inherited my soup genes....she makes great soup!!), Shaun 13(he's learning to cook), and Joseph 6). I mention the cooking because the kids sometimes cook dinner and I have extra time to crochet or do some web page work!! Isn't it nice to have children who can cook!!!! I've been crocheting since I was about 8 years old. In college I didn't make the time for much crochet, but kept my fingers moving enough to remember how!! I've really been going full tilt for the past three years or so. I'm mostly a yarnie, although lately I have done two doilies and I think I am hooked (pun intended!). I also love to design web pages and would like to get a business going. I've been building and maintaining the Crochethook website and Crochethook's second site, "Home for the Holidays". In addition to that I love knitting, camping, computers, walking, learning new stuff, and taking care of my children.

Meet Cindi!

I'm a 35 year old mother of 2 kids. My son, David, is 12, and my daughter, Robyn, is 9. I've been married to a simply wonderful man (even if he DOES threaten on a regular basis to throw away all my yarn) for over 10 years. I live in northeastern North Carolina, and have for all my life. Other than crocheting, I like to do counted cross-stitch, some plastic canvas, and chat with all my various friends that I have on my mailing lists. If you would like to chat with me, my ICQ# is 12949119, and my CoolSpeak voice box # is 104285. I hope to hear from you all real soon.

Meet Bonnie!

Hi Everyone! My name is Bonnie Ruark, I am 30 years old and live right on the coast of North Carolina. My husband Lee and I have been married for 11 years. We met on a blind date, and have been together ever since. Truly love at first sight. No kids yet, but we are hopeful. I love to crochet, quilt, cross-stitch, sew, plastic canvas, and scrapbooks. My favorite, though is crochet. I work full time in a sewing factory making scrubs. I enjoy spending time with my family, and especially with my nephews who are 1 year old and 3 months old. I am expecting another nephew in April and can't wait. (I would love to have a little niece, though, so I could crochet those cute frilly girl things! Apparently, my sisters aren't willing to cooperate on that! LOL!)

Meet Beatriz!

I was born in 1956 here in Rio de Janeiro and I always lived here. The Internet made possible for me to know other countries! I learned to crochet at 7 years old from my maternal grandmother Carolina. She also taught me to knit, embroider and sew. I learned to tat from a book and my old aunt Neide. I'm married to Chico, a marvellous man, a musician, photographer and skilled luthier. We are together since 1976 and we have four children - Pedro, 18yo, Clara, 15yo, Alvaro, 12yo and Emilia, 9yo. I have an older daughter (Ines, 24yo) and he an older son (David, 23 yo). I'm a graphic designer and I work 40 hours a week in a big newspaper. I'm also a translator and I translate books into Portuguese for a Brazilian publishing house. I can read English, French, Italian and Spanish, and I know a tiny bit of German and Russian. I prefer to crochet with cotton thread and I've designed some interesting blouses for me and my daughters. Brazil is a very hot country so my experience with yarn crochet isn't that big, but I've made some sweaters and baby clothes. I also made a granny square king size afghan with my grandma when I was a child.

Meet Margaret!

I'm Margaret, 40 , single with 2 kids of the feline persuasion. One advantage of having cats instead of a DH, they NEVER complain about how much yarn I have-- as long as I share it! I even ordered some just for them from a company called Creature Comforts, it was spun from dog hair and is sort of like a textured mohair. I made them a little throw which one of these days I'm going to reshape. I've had the squares for a Dresden Plate afghan made for 3 years now but one of the Boys sleeps on the stacks of squares so I have never put it together. My WIPs add up to about a dozen, and I change patterns a lot, one is an advent calendar but instead of a tree with an ornament for every day of advent, I'm designing 25 forest animals to sit around the tree. My eyes and wrists can't handle thread work, so I do mostly afghans, some for gifts and some for my local animal shelters as fund raisers. I made a Noah's Ark afghan last year for the Humane Society, I added 2 dogs and 2 cats to the original pattern. I can recommend the catnip birds on the site, I made about 75 of them this past Christmas and all the cats who got one enjoyed them.

Meet Marilyn!

"Just thought I'd give you a brief history of my needlework career ( and maybe my regular career too).I've been doing some kind of needlework since I was about 10 or 11. I used to lose my sweaters often. My mom would get mad! One time I decided to give her something to try to ward off her wrath. I went up to thelocal Coast to Coast store and bought something to embroider and give to her. I don't remember what it was, but, as they say, the rest is history. I have rarely been without some kind of sewing or needlework since. I make many of my own clothes (although since I got passionate about cross stitch and crocheting, I've been doing less sewing, much to the detriment of my wardrobe!)I have taught myself most of the rudiments, but have taken many classes to improve my skills. I signed up for dressmaking in junior high school, bought pale yellow polished cotton for a dropped-waist jumper, and then promptly got the mumps! I was soooo disappointed because I was anxious to start sewing!I started doing counted cross stitch in 1984 after admiring the lovely things a friend had made for her young daughter's room. Since joining CrochetPartners, I have become semi-fanatic about crochet also. Joined the Pomegranate Guild in March, 1996 (Judaic Needlework) and the EGA(Embroiderer's Guild of America) in October, 1996. I have rarely been bored since then!!!I am 56, single and mom to the sweetest domestic long hair, dilute-calicocat this side of the Rocky Mountains! Her name is Punkin. I own my one BR condo in West Hollywood (between Hollywood and Beverly Hills) in a complex called 'The Courtyards'. It has a lovely pool area with many trees and other vegetation. Enjoy growing flowers and plants on my small-ish patio. Love to cook, but I'm afraid the amount of cooking I do goes down relative to the number of projects I'm passionate about! Thank you for Trader Joe's! Read and enjoy movies and videotapes...walk for exercise.I am trained as a medical technologist and worked 11 years in an organ transplantation lab in Los Angeles. However, I am no longer in that lab and have finished training as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer(MCSE in networking). Looking for a job, unsuccessfully so far...Anyway,that's about it!"

Meet Omak!

Where to start.... I learned to knit in 4H when I was eleven years old... and from there, I have advanced to crocheting, sewing, quilting/piecing, rabble rousing and will get into dollmaking SOON! My mother says I was a happy child, and have survived for almost forty eight years now, having added four more children to the clan and am now the proud Omakmama of a four-year-old grandson... My oldest daughter is a career girl, oldest son - a second lieutenant in the Air Force... second daughter is a Stay at home mom with that boy I like so well, and our youngest boy is a Marine... For the most part, I am easy to get along with, not particularly a fun date, but can make you laugh if one is not careful... and I rather enjoy being a kept woman by my husband who doesnt seem to mind keeping me
Omak is short for Omakmama.... which is the name my grandson gave me when he started talking... I live in a little town called Omak, and I am his mama's mama... so ergo... in his brain, I was Omakmama... when I started on the net and going into chat rooms, the folks just shortened it to Omak... so... here I is     Omak
I WANTED to be called Big Mama... but in our family, as long as the idea isnt immoral, unethical, illogical, or dangerous, what the child says if just fine.... ROFL
I cant think of anything else to say! and Im not even gasping for breath! You guys must REALLY be having a positive influence over me Omak PS: You mentioned heart singing and spirit soaring... No one has ever figured out a price to pay me that equals the enjoyment and pleasure I get out of plying fiber/fabric, hook/needle.. and turning out something that is productive and useful and COLORFUL.... Makes me appreciate what GOD was thinking when he looked at HIS creation and said, "It is GOOD." Every once in awhile... I get to say that too

Meet Cathy!

Hi all and here is my bio (finally got to it), My name is Cathy Ruddy, I'm 31 years young and have been married 1 1/2 years to the sweetest man (he lets me indulge my yarn and pattern habit). I was born, bred and continue to live in Joliet, IL. I was a personal banker for 9 1/2 years when I decided I needed a break so I took one in October and haven't been back. :-) My maternal grandma taught me to crochet when I was 10 or 11 and I've been crocheting off and on since. I've recently (within the last 6 months) branched out from afghans to toys, decorations, and clothes. My favorite item to crochet is a Rudolph in a wreath Christmas decoration. I love to give them as gifts and see the recipients face when they open it. My one piece of advice to anyone would be to enjoy our loved ones while you may. Tell them that you love them and don't take them for granted. Life is too short.

Meet Fran!

I'm Fran, a 52 year old SAHGM (stay at home grandmother). I worked for 20 years as an RN finally retired from that profession. Now I'm enjoying my time doing things that I want. DH is self-employed and works in a city about 20 miles from here. We have been married for 29 3/4 years, have one son who is 26, and have 5 grandchildren--three boys and two girls. Until last year dh and I lived in a house with lots of yard work, lots of flower gardens, a big vegetable garden and lots of people in the house...our son and his family lived with us. They moved out last December. This November dh and I downsized...we now have a very comfortable apartment..we have sold lots of stuff, given lots of stuff away, and still have too much junk....I know that we didn't start out this marriage with this much stuff. LOL I love to crochet, cross stitch, sew, am learning to quilt and still have more things that I want to learn how to do. At present I'm crocheting a throw for our grandson whose birthday is Feb 2, a doily for dil whose birthday is Feb 6 and then will do another throw for another grandson whose birthday is Mar 2.

Meet Shannon!

My name is Shannon Taylor, and I live in Chattanooga, TN with my DH, Eric and our 4 children. Grant is 15, Jasmin is 10, Jordan is 9 and Jackson is 10 months. Since the arrival of Jack, I have left my full time job and now work 2-3 evenings a week for an insurance company in an ask-a-nurse type telephone center. It's a great job because in between calls I can CROCHET! I have been a nurse for 13 years. I have always loved to craft, ever since I can remember. My grandmother and Mom ran a home sewing business out of our home, so I grew up playing with empty spools under their feet. I love to sew and when I decided to work part time, I turned my dining room into a sewing/craft room. I also love to cross stitch, especially Hardanger (although my poor eyesight makes it frustrating). I taught myself to crochet last fall when I saw a pattern in Crafts magazine for a Christmas tree garland that looks like popcron and cranberries. I quickly got addicted and made potholders and towel toppers for everyone on my Christmas list. My current projects are baby afghans-we have a pregnancy epidemic at work!

Meet Velma!

ok im married to a wonderful loving man. have been for 21 years. have three children, michael who is now 22. andrew he is now 17 and a darling girl amanda who is 15. i have been crocheting since i was probably about 6 years old. used to crochet and knit at school. taught myself from watching my grandparents. love doing for others and will as long as i can.

Velma passed on Thursday, May 6th, 1999 from a severe asthma attack. She was a warm and genuine woman who will be missed by all of us.

Life Is Eternal

I am standing on the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then some one at my side says; "There! She's gone."

Gone where? Gone from my sight - that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side, and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of her destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her; and just at the moment when some one at my side says, "There! She's gone," there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "There she comes!"

Meet Jackie!

i everyone: My name is Jackie Courts and I live in Huntington, West Virginia. I am new to this list and glad for the opportunity to introduce myself. I am a graphic artist for a printing company and have worked here for 22 years. I am an avid crocheter and have been for about 15 years. I love to make anything!!!

I make sweaters, dresses, coats, afghans, etc. You name it, I'll try it. I love it. There is no better hobby to have. (Or is it an obsession?) LOL!!

I was born in Bury-St-Edmunds, England, on December 2, 1958. I am divorced with 2 children, David, 21, and Sarah, 4. (Yeah, I know, big ole age difference, huh?) I love to play the piano, sew, crochet, and spend lots of time outdoors. I have a cat whose name is Callie and usually when I am sitting in my easy chair crocheting, she is right there beside me. I am currently making her a kitty afghan and she seems to know this. Go figure!

Meet Lynda!

Hi, My name is Lynda Wright. I am married to my childhood sweetheart and we have 6 grown and married children. They have given us 13 grandchildren. If I had known having grandkids was this much fun I'd have had them first. I love to crochet. I am in many of the exchanges and I love them. I crochet with yarn and thread both. I really love them both and have no preference. I do some designing and have had several of my patterns published in many of the crochet magazines. We have a 36 foot motorhome and usually go to Florida in the winter. I crochet while we are traveling. ( My DH does the driving) And I crochet all the time we are there. The only difference in my crocheting here in Illinois and in Florida is, in Florida I crochet outside under our awning while I talk to the other campers. In Illinois at home I crochet in the house. That is what I am all about. Grandchildren, crocheting and traveling.

Meet Peggy!

I have been on the list a few weeks and will introduce myself finally. Btw, I really love the list - just the way it is so I hope it will stay the same.
My name is Peggy Ledford and I don't have a nickname but maybe I'll earn one from this list!
I was born in Moberly Missouri in 1946-yep-another golden oldie! August 6 to be exact! I move to West Columbia, SC in 1974 and as the old saying goes-got sand in my shoes and now don't want to live anywhere else! II have been married for 21 years to a wonderful guy that has the same drive as I do and puts up with all my crafty ideas and sometimes improves upon them!
My email address is pled@worldnet.att.net
I love any craft and feel like a sponge to try to absorb them all. My all time favorite is crocheting - and always have a project going. My husband got me a Babylock sewing embroidery machine for Christmas so I have acquired another new hobby. I also got a serger in the package that I am trying to understand what to do with it! My husband and I had a repair and parts business until 1995 when we sold it and he retired and I became an official homemaker and absolutely love it. Now I have time to do all the things I just dreamed about.
