A few yards of Dk Yellow "Knit-Cro-Sheen."
Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 10.
Doily measures 17 inches in diameter.
CROCHETED BRAID --- First Braid Ring . . . Starting at narrow end with White, ch 8.
1st row: In 8th ch from hook make 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc (shell made). Ch 7, turn.
2nd row: In sp of shell make 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc (shell made over shell). Ch 7, turn.
Repeat 2nd row until there are 8 loops on each side. Break off. Sew narrow ends together.
CENTER . . . Attach Dk. Yellow, size 30, to any loop in center of ring, ch 3, dc in same loop, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc make 2 dc in next loop, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (dc cluster made). Make a cluster in each remaining loop. Join and break off.
PADDED RING . . . Starting at center with Dk. Yellow, size 30, ch 22. Join with sl st to form ring.
1st row: Working over 4 strands of "Knit-Cro-Sheen," make 35 sc in ring, ch 2, sl st in any loop on outer edge of Braid Ring, ch 2. Join to first sc. Break off. Make 7 more rings the same way, joining them to the Braid Ring as before.
Now work in rnds as follows:
1st row: Attach White to the 6th sc made on any Padded Ring, sc in same sc and in next 4 sc, * (ch 7, sc in next 5 sc) 4 times; ch 3, holding back on hook the last loop of each d tr, make d tr in same loop on Braid Ring as Padded Ring was joined and in next loop on Braid Ring, thread over and draw through all lops on hook (joint d tr made), ch 3, skip first 5 sc on next ring, sc in next 5 sc. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.
2nd row: Attach Dk Yellow to the first ch-7 loop on any ring, ch 4, make a 2-tr cluster in same loop, * (ch 7, in next loop make 3-tr cluster, ch 7 and 3-tr cluster) twice; ch 7, cluster in next loop (scallop made), cluster in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join last cluster to tip of first cluster. Break off.
SECOND BRAID RING. . . Make a strip of braid, having 48 loops on each side. Sew narrow ends together.
Next rnd: Attach Dk. Yellow to any loop on inner side of Second Braid Ring, ch 4, 2-tr cluster in same loop, * ch 7, 3-tr cluster in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.
Joining: Attach White to last loop of any scallop on center section, sc in same loop, sc in next loop, ch 3, sc in any loop between clusters on Second Braid Ring, * ch 3, (sc in next loop on center, ch 3, sc in next 2 loops on Second Braid Ring, ch 3) twice: -- mark the cluster between the last 2 sc made -- sc in next loop on center, ch 3, sc in next loop on Second Braid Ring, ch 3, sc in next 2 loops on center, ch 3, sc in next loop on Second Braid Ring. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.
THIRD BRAID RING. . . Make a strip of braid, having 88 loops on each side. Break off. Sew narrow ends together.
FIRST SMALL FILL-IN-MOTIF. . . . 1st rnd: Attach White to loop on Second Braid Ring following any cluster marked, ch4, 2-tr cluster in same loop, (ch 3, 3-tr cluster in next loop) 3 times; ch 3, cluster in any loop on inner side of Third Braid Ring, (ch 3, cluster in next loop on same ring) 8 times; ch 3. Join to tip of first cluster. Break off.
2nd rnd: Attach Dk. Yellow to any sp on last rnd, ch 4 tr in next sp and in each sp around. Join to top of ch-4. Break off.
SECOND SMALL FILL-IN-MOTIF . . . .1st rnd: Skip next 2 loops on Second Braid Ring, attach White to next loop, ch 4, 2-tr cluster in same loop, (ch 3, 3-tr cluster in next loop) 3 times; ch 3, cluster in the 11th free loop on Third Braid Ring following last fill-in-motif, (ch 3, cluster in next loop) 8 times; ch 3. Join and break off (2 loops left free on both Second and Third Rings). Complete as for First Motif. Make 6 more fill-in-motifs same as Second Fill-In-Motif was made. Sew the adjacent 2 free loops on each ring together.
FOURTH BRAID RING . . . Make a strip of braid exactly as for Third Ring. Sew any 2 loops on inner ecge of Fourth Ring to center 2 loops over any motif on Third Ring. Leaving 9 loops free on both rings, sew groups of 2 loops together all around.
LARGE FILL-IN-MOTIF . . . 1st rnd: Attach White to first free loop between joined loops on Third Ring, ch 4, 2-tr cluster in same loop, (ch 3, 3-tr cluster in next loop) 8 times; (ch 3, cluster in next free loop on Fourth Ring) 9 times; ch 3. Join and break off.
2nd rnd: Attach Dk. Yellow to any sp on last rnd, ch 5, d tr in next sp and in each sp around. Join to top of ch-5.
3rd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st and in each d tr around. Join and break off. Make 7 more motifs the same way.
EDGING . . . .1st rnd: Attach Dk. Yellow on opposite side of Fourth Ring to loop between any 2 sewed loops, sc in same loop, * (ch 7, cluster in next loop) 10 times; ch 7, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join.
2nd rnd: Sl st to center of next loop, sc in same loop, * (ch 7, sc in next loop) 4 times; ch 7, in next loop make dc, ch 7 and dc; (ch 7, sc in next loop) 4 times; ch 7, sc in next 2 loops. Repeat from *around. Join.
3rd and 4th rnds: Work as for 2nd rnd, making ch-8 loops on 3rd rnd and ch-9 loops on 4th rnd.
5th rnd: Sl st to center of next loop, sc in same loop, (ch 10, sc in next loop) 4 times; * ch 4, in next loop make (cluster, ch 4) 3 times; (sc in next loop, ch 10) 9 times; sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join and break off. Starch lightly and press
