As we battle the haze of smoke and fumes,
We pray that no-one is in those rooms,
We make a break and force our way in,
Only to find all hell within,
"Look Out", we yell, hope its not too late,
It's one of our own, we don't know his fate,
We rush to his aid only to see,
His lifeless body pinned beneath the debris,
We work furiously saying, "Come on Jack,"
But for this young firefighter, he's not coming back,
We carry him out, then lay him aside,
For the tears in our eyes we try to hide,
God rest his soul, as his journey ends,
We weren't just work mates, we were all friends.
