The Shawnee State University GeoBear Scholarship
IN EARLY FEBRUARY, 1997, WILLIS STUDENT SCOTT GORDON RECEIVED THIS LETTER
FROM CLIVE VERI, PRESIDENT OF SHAWNEE STATE UNIVERSITY, AFTER AN ARTICLE
APPEARED IN THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH ABOUT SCOTT'S BEAR'S "KIDNAPPING"
IN PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC...
February 6, 1997
Mr. Scott Gordon
Willis Intermediate School
Delaware, Ohio 43015
Dear Scott:
I read with real interest the article by Jane Hawes in the
"Columbus Dispatch" about your hostage bear, and the other 75 whose
whereabouts you know nothing about.
Obviously I can't help with them. However, I can send you the
enclosed Shawnee State Bear. Surely it will not replace your
kidnapped friend, but the Shawnee Bear, the mascot of Shawnee State
University in Portsmouth, Ohio, holds an exciting promise.
With him comes my pledge that if you or any of your 7th grade
classmates choose to come to Shawnee State after high school
graduation, the University will award a full-year scholarship for
one of you for your freshman year.
To be eligible you'd need to have attained a minimun of a 2.5 grade
point average and completed the normal application process. As an
open enrollment university, Shawnee State welcomes all students who
want to get a two-year associate or a four-year
baccalaureate degree.
If more than one of your classmates would like to come to Shawnee
State, we'll accept the advice of your counselor and principal as
to whom should receive the award.
Good luck in finding the location of your GeoBears, and
happy learning!
I hope to hear from you in a few years.
Sincerely,
Clive C. Veri
President
Thanks President Veri, From the Willis Class of 2002!
