BUFFALO IN
THE RED RIVER GORGE

ABOUT THESE BUFFALO.....

As I was driving from Sky Bridge going toward the Rt. 77 intersection, on Rt. 715, I came upon these buffalo. They were in a pasture, enclosed by an electric fence, on the left side of Rt. 715. We, like many other folks, stopped to take a few pictures... If you're surprised by the fact that there's buffalo in Kentucky, your're not alone. I had no idea!! I was as surprised as anyone.

Today, 4-24-98, I called the Stanton Ranger Station and talked to a lady working there. She informed me that about six years ago they had a director that wanted to bring in some buffalo, because at one time they were native to that area. So, now we know! The buffalo belong to the Forest Service. It seems they are part of an effort to preserve the natural setting, to some extent, of the area. I hope you enjoy the pictures because I sure enjoyed seeing the buffalo.......
