Once you get into the states on your I-94, you can call 1-800-772-1213 and find your nearest Social Security office to your home.
You have to apply in person and it only takes about 10 minutes.
they tell you to call the above number in 5 days to get your number verbally over the phone and in 10 days you should get it via postal mail.
