About Me

Who am I?

My name is Christina, and I am 23 years old. I live in Columbus, Ohio with my two cats, Mishka and Nikolai, and work at the Ohio State University as a web designer for the OSU Libraries. I have a BA in History (specializing in 16th Century British History) from Miami University. Web design is just a hobby that turned into a job - after all, it's hard to find a job relevant to a History degree! I hope to go back and get my Master's Degree in History eventually.

Why Irish dance?

My interest in Irish dance started a few years ago when I saw Riverdance and Lord of the Dance. I was hooked right away. I'm the type of person that is always wanting to try something new, so I signed up for classes right away. I have enjoyed every minute of it since then. Irish dance has also helped me in a few ways. First, my stamina is much better. I used to get out of breath walking up stairs, but after all the hopping, skipping and jumping I've done, I can walk up many flights of stairs and feel fine! Irish dance has also strengthened my ankles, helping to prevent any more silly injuries caused by clumsiness - tripping, falling down stairs, etc. Also, Irish dance is the best weight loss program I could ever have! In the past year, I have lost 50 lbs! I credit my weight loss to dance and to eating better. And finally, Irish dance is just FUN. Who could ask for anything more?

Do I have a life outside of Irish dance?

In my spare time, when I'm not working or doing Irish dance, I participate in the Ohio Renaissance Festival. I love dressing up in Elizabethan gowns! I also make my own costumes for the Festival, and hope to start a business soon making custom garb for others! At the festival, I play Anne Cecil, the Countess of Oxford, a Lady-in-Waiting to Queen Elizabeth (I'll have to find a picture and put it up here). My boyfriend is the Earl of Oxford, my character's husband. I'm also the Historical Advisor to the festival. The show runs from the last weekend in August til mid-October. If you're in Ohio or nearby, check it out!

I am also a memeber of the SCA - the Society for Creative Anachronism. This is a group that likes to get together and recreate medieval and renaissance times. Again, I get to dress up in really cool costumes, so I love it! They also offer a lot of classes in medieval arts, such as sewing, embroidery, medieval cooking, jewelry making, etc. - the list goes on and on!

As for non-organized spare time, I enjoy reading, playing Pokemon, the collectable card game with my boyfriend, watching TV (I really don't have any favorite shows - I just watch whatever's on when I get the chance!), gaming (live-action roleplaying), and sleeping!
