It is very important to keep your worms Cool!
This can be a challenge during the
"dog days of summer" when the mercury is
hovering around 95oF, and the sun has
turned your boat into a griddle. To keep
worms alive during these conditions try
the following:
- Keep your worms
in a styrofoam cooler with plenty of
decayed leaf mulch (moistened)
- Always
keep the lid on the cooler while it is
not in use.
- Try to keep the cooler in
a shady spot out of direct
sunlight.
- This is very important:
Place several ice cubes in a plastic
zip-lock bag. Zip the bag closed.
Place the bag under the mulch in the
cooler. This will keep your worms cool
for a long period of time. The bag keeps
the mulch from becoming too wet, as too much
moisture will kill the worms also.
- When you
return home place any unused worms in
the refrigerator to use on your next
fishing trip.<- <-
