Shumi-Shumi Man VII

In 1997, Shumi-Shumi Man VII was released to the public for use on the Lesandytendo Entertainment System (LES) game console. Lesandytendo had intended the game to the the third in a series, being a sequel to their hits Bear and Shark. Shumi-Shumi Man VII or "SSM7" as it came to be called, hit the American market with mixed reviews. It was called "a basic rehashing of its predecessors" by a very noteworthy gaming magazine. Even fans of the original Bear and Shark found SSM7 to be lacking. While it continued the adventures set forth by the first two games, SSM7 added nothing to the series.

SSM7 wasn't hated by all, however. Far from that. The game garnered many fans in the U.S., and many-a fan pages cropped up on the Internet. The now-defunct Tim's SSM7 SuperPage scored 548,325 hits in its first week alone. But, statistics show that more than anywhere else, Shumi-Shumi Man VII was a HUGE hit in the Russian Federation, where the game was known as Shyumi-Shyumi Chelovek 7. The game sold over one million units in its first three weeks on the Russian market. Sales continued to climb, and the game was Number 1 on Russia's Top 10 lists for seven months straight, when it dropped to Number 2. Sales of the game are still fairly high over there, and more have been sold than anywhere on Earth.

Unfortounatelly, the results of the American reactions of the game had caused problems with Lesandytendo, who haven't released a new game since Shumi-Shumi Man VII. Recent reports, however, seem to indicate an increasing interest within the Lesandytendo Corporation which may lead to a new game upcoming for 2001 or 2002. We'll just have to wait and see.
