These are his feet and handprints.
Dreams and images are part of every pregnancy, but not every dream comes true. More often than most of us ever imagine, pregnancies do not always end happily ever after.
Each year, over half a million dreams are shattered. Out of 3.3 million babies born alive, some 30,000 die during the first 28 days. Another 33,000 babies are stillborn. Miscarriage occurs in 15 to 20 percent of pregnancies, while ectopic pregnancy ocurs in 1 percent.
It is little comfort to grieving parents that infant mortality is much less than it was at the turn of the century when one out of ten babies died. Parents cannot cuddle statistics. All that matters to a parent whose baby has died is that infant was their child...
This is part of the introduction from a very good book that was given to us by our doctor, after the death of Jacob. The book is called When a Baby Dies. Written by Rana K. Limbo and Sara Rich Wheeler.
