FIREFIGHTER POEM

ODE TO A FIREFIGHTER

A FIREFIGHTER STOOD AT THE PEARLY GATE

WITH FACE WARN, WRINKLED, AND OLD

AND MEEKLY ASKED THE MAN OF FAITH

FOR ADMISSIOM TO THE FOLD

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE, SAINT PETER ASK

TO SEEK ADMISSION HERE?"

" I WAS A FIREFIGHTER DOWN ON EARTH

FOR MANY AND MANY YEARS."

OH, THE GATES WERE OPENED SHARPLY,

AND SAINT PETER RANG THE BELL

"COME IN AND GRAB A HARP," HE SAID,

FOR YOU'VE SEEN ENOUGH OF HELL"

A Fireman’s Prayer

When I called to duty, god Wherever flames may rage, Give me strength to save some life Whatever be its age Help me embrace a little child Before it is to late Or save an older person from The horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout And quickly and efficiently To put the fire out. I want to fill my calling and To give the best in me, Protect his property. And if according to my fate I am to lose my life Please bless with your protecting and My children and my wife.
