PRINCE WILLIAM TAKES ON GODPARENT ROLE

Prince William has taken on a new role - as a godparent at a christening attended by several members of European royal families.

The Prince arrived at the Greek cathedral of St Sophia, in central London, just before the christening of six-month-old Prince Konstantine Alexios, son of Crown Prince and Princess Pavlos of Greece, was due to begin.

As about 150 of the world's press watched, the 16-year-old prince was met on the steps of the cathedral by the Crown Prince and his father, the exiled Greek King Constantine.

With his left arm in a sling from a recent operation on a broken finger, William briefly turned to the crowd and smiled and waved.

Just before he arrived other guests, who had travelled to the christening by coach, were dropped off.

They included the seven other godparents: Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden; Prince Nikolaos of Greece; Crown Prince Frederik; the Prince of Asturias; Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia; Princess Alexandra von Furstenburg; and family friend Doris Robbs.

No other members of the British Royal Family attended.
