William will be tagged at Eton

By Valerie Elliott
PRINCE William will have something in common with young offenders when he starts school at Eton in September. For the Prince is to be protected by an electronic monitor or tag to allow royal protection officers to trace his location any time.

Security chiefs have insisted that the Prince should carry an electronic device because they are concerned about the relatively open character of the school.

Prince William, 12, will wish to wander around Eton in the same way as any other pupil, and even though a personal protection officer will be close to him, the monitor is considered a vital extra precaution.

Prince William will be protected by the team of officers who are his present bodyguards at Ludgrove and Thames Valley police will mount patrols at the school.

Plans could be revised in the autumn however if life becomes difficult for the Prince. Any persistent stalkers - which will include photographers and reporters - could be arrested under local by-laws and could even be prosecuted under the new law of persistent harassment.
