1996 Super Bowl Champs!

Good to see you have made it to my second page. You can click back to page 1 at bottom of this page.

Alot of you may know how cold and boring our winters can be in Wisconsin. That may explain why we are such football nuts in this state. If it isn't the Packers in the Super Bowl we have the Wisconsin Badgers winning the Rose Bowl. So we really are able to entertain ourselves pretty much until the end of January.

After becoming Super Bowl champs for the first time in almost thirty years the Packers were one game winning drive away from winning back to back Super Bowls in 1997. People have said that they were not ready for the game but the Denver Broncos proved to everyone why they have won 12 or games the past three seasons.

The 1998 season also ended on a teams final drive of the game. With just three seconds left in the game Steve Young connected with Terrel Owens on a 25 yeard pass play the ended the Packers chances of a third straight Super Bowl.

1999 was a real tough year for G.B. A new coach who was in for more than he realized. Injuries to their star QB and a young, somewhat under achieving defense made for a year in which the Packers missed the playoffs for the first time since 92. With draft day approaching quick, a new coaching staff and a healthy MVP Brett Favre, all indications show we should be right back in the thick of it come next year.

New News From This Year

The Green Bay Packers' plan to raise $295 million to rebuild Lambeau Field includes a smaller share of public dollars than other National Football League stadium projects. Marty Greenberg, a Milwaukee sports lawyer who follows the sports industry and stadium financing, said the level of private participation in the Packers' proposal was above average. Based on a review of accounting studies, government reviews and his own analysis of stadium plans across the country, Greenberg said, NFL franchises in the 1990s relied on a 73%-27% public-private funding mix to build their stadiums.
