**Punk had to surrender the title due to an injury. Moxley won the right to face Tanahashi, who was scheduled to wrestle Punk for the belt, and won to become the interim champion. Moxley eventually defeated Punk to become the undisputed champion on August 24.
***Punk was stripped of the title after being suspended due to a backstage altercation with Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks, as well as incurring an injury during the title match itself. This was the finals of a tournament to crown a new champion.
