Edge arrived in the WWF in mid-1998, a mysterious man in a trenchcoat who would lurk in the crowd and watch the matches. The only wrestler to get him to show any kind of emotion was Gangrel. Edge made his in-ring debut and quickly targeted Gangrel. However, Gangrel brought in Edge's brother Christian, who appeared to be under his control. After a few weeks of trying to free his brother, Edge gave up and joined Gangrel. They called themselves the Brood.
At the beginning of 1999, they joined the Undertaker's Ministry of Darkness. However, when the Undertaker started punishing Christian, the Brood left and feuded with Mideon and the Acolytes. Edge and Christian started teaming more regularly, and gained attention with their matches against the Hardy Boyz. Gangrel grew jealous of Edge and the two were at odds, with Christian caught in the middle. Christian chose to side with his brother, and they continued their feud with the Hardy Boyz. Terri Runnels then offered $100,000 and her managerial services to the winner of a best of five tournament between Edge & Christian and the Hardy Boyz. The deciding match was a tag team ladder match at No Mercy, which the Hardys won. Edge and Christian teamed with the Hardys out of respect to lose to Hardcore Holly, Crash Holly, and Too Cool at Survivor Series.
After participating in the Royal Rumble, they beat the Hardys at No Way Out. They went up against the Hardys and The Dudley Boyz in a Triple Threat ladder match at WrestleMania 2000 for the tag team titles. They won the titles, which brought out their cockiness. Over the next few weeks, they made open challenges and started making up new poses "for the benefit of those with flash photography." They successfully defended against DX at Backlash, but teamed with Kurt Angle to lose to Rikishi and Too Cool at Judgment Day. Too Cool soon won the tag team titles from Edge & Christian but they regained them at King of the Ring in a Four Corners elimination match, which also involved Too Cool, the Hardys, and T & A. They lost to the Acolytes by DQ at Fully Loaded, and retained their titles at SummerSlam against the Hardys and the Dudleys in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Match. They lost the belts to the Hardys at Unforgiven in a cage match. Commissioner Mick Foley stated if they couldn't win the belts back the next night in a ladder match, they would receive no more title shots at the Hardys. They lost, so tried to make the Hardys lose the belts to any other team. When that failed, they went under masks as The Conquistadores, and worked their way into a title shot. After beating the Hardys at No Mercy for the belts, their plan was to dress two jobbers up as the Conquistadores and have them lay down for them in a match the next night, legitimizing their title reign. Only their henchmen, unbeknownst to them, were beaten up. The Conquistadores beat Edge & Christian and unmasked, revealing the Hardy Boyz. Mick Foley said he would allow their victory the previous night, but also allowed the Hardys' victory over them moments before. E & C teamed with The Goodfather and Bull Buchanan to lose to the Hardys and the Dudleys at Survivor Series. They won a Four Corners Match at Armageddon, beating Road Dogg & K-Kwik, The Dudleys, and the RTC to win their fourth tag title.
They lost the tag team belts to the Dudleys at Royal Rumble 2001 and failed to win them back at No Way Out in a Triple Threat Match also involving Kane and The Undertaker. The Hardys beat the Dudleys for the belts, and Edge & Christian weaseled their way into the rematch when the Dudleys' flight was late. They won the titles back with help from former ECW Champ Rhyno. However, the Dudleys managed to arrive and beat Edge & Christian in another match later on to win the belts. Edge & Christian beat the Hardys and the Dudleys in TLC II at WrestleMania X-Seven to win the belts back, once again thanks to Rhyno. They lost the belts to Kane and The Undertaker a couple of weeks later. They started having problems with Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit. After beating up Jericho, he vowed to enter the Tag Team Turmoil Match at Judgment Day to get his hands on Edge & Christian. E & C helped Kurt Angle get his medals back earlier against Benoit, so Benoit teamed with Jericho and helped him win the match and the automatic title shot. Edge & Christian both decided to win the King of the Ring tournament, with Edge beating Test and Perry Saturn and Christian beating Kane and The Big Show. Christian lost in the semis to Kurt Angle, but Edge won the tournament by beating Rhyno and Angle. Christian began to grow jealous of Edge's success and carried the KOTR trophy with him as if he'd won it. It grew worse when Edge won the IC belt from Lance Storm at SummerSlam. Christian was unsuccessful as a singles wrestler, but challenged the Rock for the WCW Title so that he could surpass Edge. He lost, and attacked Edge when he came out to console him. Edge lost the title to Christian at Unforgiven, but won it back in a rematch at No Mercy. He lost it again a couple of weeks later to Test but won the WCW United States Title from Angle shortly thereafter. He won a unification match with Test at Survivor Series, getting the IC belt back. William Regal kept attacking Edge with brass knuckles, so Edge put the title on the line against him at Vengeance and won.
He lost the IC title to Regal at the Royal Rumble, thanks to Regal using brass knuckles. He failed to win it back from Regal at No Way Out in a brass knuckles on a pole match, and then was attacked by Booker T when Edge received a contract for a Japanese shampoo commercial that Booker had auditioned for. Edge beat Booker at WrestleMania X-8, and then the roster split happened. Edge was drafted to Vince McMahon's Smackdown brand, away from Booker. Edge turned his attention to his old friend Kurt Angle, but lost to him at Backlash. He challenged Angle to a rematch at Judgment Day, with the loser of the match being shaved bald. Edge beat Angle and was able to shave his head. He beat Angle in a cage match, injuring his shoulder in the process, and had to forfeit his King of the Ring qualifying match to Chris Jericho. Jericho attacked Edge and injured his shoulder further. Edge returned a month later and won the tag team titles from Billy & Chuck with his childhood idol Hulk Hogan. They lost the titles a few weeks later at Vengeance to Lance Storm and Christian. Edge beat Jericho in a cage match on Smackdown, and then feuded with Eddie Guerrero. He beat Eddie at SummerSlam, and then Eddie beat him at Unforgiven. They settled it in a no holds barred match on Smackdown, which Edge won. Stephanie McMahon created tag titles for Smackdown, and Edge entered the tournament, with Rey Mysterio as his partner. They beat Brock Lesnar and Tajiri, and Ron Simmons and D-von to get to the finals at No Mercy. They lost the finals to Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle, but won the belts from them in a two out of three falls match a couple of weeks later. They lost the belts in a Triple Threat matcha at Survivor Series to Eddie and Chavo Guerrero. A couple of weeks later, Mysterio was brutally attacked by Albert, who injured his knee. Edge went after Albert, now called A-Train, and beat him by DQ at Armageddon. He then won a decisive victory on the following Smackdown.
He competed in the Royal Rumble, and then teamed with Chris Benoit against Team Angle. They were to team with Brock Lesnar against all three members of Team Angle at No Way Out, but Edge was attacked before the match, sustaining a serious neck injury.
