Eugene debuted in the Spring of 2004. When William Regal returned from a long hiatus, Raw GM Eric Bischoff gave him a task: to watch his nephew Eugene, who was a little "special." Bischoff didn't want to give Eugene a job, and wanted Regal to make him quit. Eugene caused Regal no end of grief, such as wandering out to the broadcast table and licking Jerry Lawler ala the Bushwhackers, but eventually Regal grew attached to him. Eugene had absorbed so much wrestling knowledge in his life that he turned out to be a natural in the ring, pinning Rob Conway in his first match. With Regal now on Eugene's side, Bischoff turned to the Coach to hurt Eugene's feelings and cause him to leave. Eugene was devastated, but the Rock arrived to build him back up. Though he loved the Rock, Eugene revealed that his favorite wrestler was Triple H. Eugene and Regal beat the Coach and Garrison Cade at Bad Blood, and then Triple H decided he was going to use Eugene as a pawn in regaining the World Title from Chris Benoit, who had also come to Eugene's defense. Triple H made Eugene an official member of Evolution, and Eugene was loving it. He even teamed with Ric Flair to take on La Resistance at Vengeance. However, Triple H's plan backfired, as Eugene messed up during his match, allowing Benoit to retain the title. Evolution attacked him the next night on Raw, and even though he was heartbroken, Eugene decided to come back and face Triple H at SummerSlam, a match where Triple H won. Bischoff had had enough of Eugene, but was put into a match with him at WWE's first interactive PPV, Taboo Tuesday, by Vince McMahon. The fans were to choose a stipulation for the loser, and chose the head-shaving clause. Eugene beat Bischoff, and then shaved his head in front of the world.
