King of the Ring '99

As far as match quality went, the WWF could definitely do better. As for angles, this PPV was great, making the whole thing pretty average.

The Brood vs. The Hardy Boyz

Match of the night right here. Since the PPV only lasted two and a half hours, I think they should have given these teams more time to work with. A twenty minute match between these teams would break the **** mark for sure. Edge and Christian represented the Brood this time. The Hardys bumped like maniacs in this one, with Matt taking an extremely hard hit as Edge caught him when he tried to leap over backwards in the corner and slammed him to the mat. Later on, they had Edge in the corner when Jeff leaped off his brother's back only to be met by the most vicious spear from Edge I've ever seen! When Edge tried to roll up Jeff, he ran to the ropes. Gangrel spit the blood at Jeff, but he ducked and it hit Edge. Then Jeff gave him a reverse neckbreaker for the win.

The Rock vs. The Undertaker- WWF Title Match

UT knocked out the ref early in this one, and The Rock delivered the Rock Bottom and the Peoples' Elbow, but there was no ref. Another one came down, which Jolly Paulie Bearer took out. They settled into a long match, but I could have done without the brawling near the entrance ramp which has become a tradition for every PPV main event. They got back in the ring but were soon at ringside, at which point JR took a shot at Sable, saying that they were in unsafe working conditions. The Rock attempted to hit UT with a chair, but he blocked it with the bell, which ricocheted the chair into the Rock's face. The ref managed to get knocked out AGAIN, and Paul "I'm a waterbed with legs" Bearer threw UT an ether soaked towel. The Rock took it and smothered the Undertaker with it until he was unconscious. As Rock attempted to wake the ref, HHH came down and gave the Rock a Pedigree. The ref and the Undertaker then woke up, and UT tombstoned the Rock for the win.

Road Doggy Dogg vs. Chyna- First Round KOTR match

This wasn't a great match, but it had a lot of psychology that made me enjoy it. Chyna worked stiff, and the Dogg sold everything she could throw at him. She dominated most of the match, and every time Jesse would make a comeback, she would wail on him again. Road Dogg ended up outside the ring at one point, where HHH rammed him into the post. (Lawler: He's only trying to throw him back in the ring, JR!) Then he dropped him on the steps. (Lawler: Oops, he missed again!) The end came when Triple H nailed the Dogg with a chain. He kicked out, and Shawn Michaels came down to get Helmsley away from the ring. As the Road Dogg looked on, Chyna nailed him with a low blow. Road Dogg then reached into his trunks and pulled out a protective cup! As Chyna was holding her arm in pain, he executed the pumphandle slam for the three count.

Steve Austin vs. Vince & Shane McMahon- Ladder Match

Since Shane was supposedly injured in his match with Shamrock on Heat, Vince had to pick a suitable replacement for his match. When Michaels threw Helmsley out of the building for his interference throughout the night, Vince picked Steve Blackman. Then, we got another visit from GTV, which showed Shane, perfectly healthy, watching the event with the Mean Street Posse. When Shane realized he was on GTV, he tried to leave the arena, but Michaels was there, and escorted him to the ring. The McMahons immediately went for the ladder, but Austin clotheslined both of them. Austin destroyed both McMahons, but they made a comeback. When they went for the ladder, Austin threw Vince into the screen in the entrance ramp. When Shane climbed onto a bunch of ladders hanging overhead, Austin followed and knocked him off. Then he threw Vince and Shane into the various ladders holding up the others and pulled down all the ladders on top of the McMahons. Austin then took the ladder to the ring, but the McMahons stopped him. He threw Shane from the ring and hit Vince with the ladder. He threw the ladder under the bottom rope. It hit Shane in the chest, and he went flying. Then Austin put him through a table. Eventually, Austin stunned both McMahons and climbed the ladder. However, someone started raising the briefcase out of Austin's reach. When Vince got on the ladder with Austin, Shane toppled the ladder, knocking out both Vince and Austin. Shane then scampered up the ladder and retrieved the briefcase, and the WWF was back in the full control of the McMahons.

X-pac vs. Road Doggy Dogg- semi final KOTR match

This match was very fast paced, with the Road Dogg nearly getting X-pac in the pumphandle slam. However, X-pac countered into the X-Factor for the win.

X-pac vs. Mr. Ass- KOTR finals

Another fast paced match, although a bit anti-climatic. Gunn worked on the neck, bulldogging X-pac and then hit the FameAsser. X-pac was able to kick out and hit the Bronco Buster and the X-Factor, but couldn't cover him. When Gunn went to the top turnbuckle, X-pac kicked out his feet and crotched him. However, Gunn fought him off, and gave him the FameAsser from the second rope to become 1999 King of the Ring. I guess now Mr. Ass can team up with f'n Mabel and they can be "Badd Ass" and "Fatt Ass."

Billy Gunn vs. Ken Shamrock- first round KOTR match

This match was decent, considering Ken Shamrock was playing like he was injured. He was able to do a few things to Gunn, but when he went for a hurracarana, Gunn tiger bombed him and the ref stopped the match because he was bleeding from the mouth.

X-pac vs. Bob "I'm Hardcore, if you don't believe me I'll smack ya" Holly- First round KOTR match

This match could have been great, but it was too short. Holly used some power moves while X-pac stuck to his speed advantage, taking him out with spinning heel kicks and the Bronco Buster. However, Holly went for a chair and clocked X-pac with it, causing a DQ.

Kane vs. The Big Slow Paul Wight- First round KOTR match

This was your typical boring, big guy match. Hardcore Holly came down with a chair, but Kane nailed him. He put a chokehold on Wight when the ref was knocked out, putting Wight down for the count. When Wight made a comeback, Kane picked up the chair and nailed him with it getting the win. So he prevented Holly from nailing the Big Show just so he could do it himself?
Rating: *

Kane vs. Mr. Billy AssGunn- semi final KOTR match

The two Kane matches had to be the duds of the night. This was basically a slugfest. There was little wrestling involved, and it didn't take long for Paul Wight to come down and whack Kane with a chair, and Gunn covered Kane for the win.
