*WWE re-instituted the brand split, and the Universal Title was created to be the main title on the Raw brand. Rollins was automatically named a top contender while Balor won a mini-tournament to earn the right to face Rollins to determine the first champion.
**Balor had to vacate the belt due to injuries he sustained in the title match. This was a Fatal Four Way Match to determine the new champion.
***Reigns had to vacate the title due to illness. His scheduled Triple Threat title defense against Lesnar and Strowman was changed to a singles match to determine the new champion.
****A year after Reigns unified both the WWE and Universal Championships, the title was made exclusive to Smackdown. A new World Championship was created for Raw, and the belt was renamed the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. The lineages would continue to be separate until Reigns lost the title, at which point the Universal Title would be dropped in favor of the WWE Title.
