Oh my goodness I went to an Oasis concert!
Anyway on April 21, 2000, my brother Wes and I, drove to Akron University to see Oasis play a EJ Thomas Hall! (I was pumped to say the least.) anyway it took us only about an hour and 20 minutes to actually get there and I thank God that we were able to find our way there and back.
We got here at about 5:45 and I saw a bunch of people waiting around so I decided to wait there too, though it was a little chilly out. We ended up waiting until almot 7:30 for them to get out of their tour bus, but I was getting sorta cold and tired so we left, bought souveniers, and found our seats. (The funny thing is I never knew the roadies sound checked to the Rutles! lol)
Anyway the show started at 8 pm. with "Travis" doing their first set and they were met rather warmly. They played a number of songs off of whst I suppose is the album "The Man Who" including "Why does it always Rain on Me?"
It was clear though, once the music began for Oasis (or once "FIB" came on) that they were the ones that everyone had come to see. That was true because everyone stood up when it was supposed to be a sit down concert.
What can I say but "Wow!" It was my first actual live Oasis concert, and I was just awestruck to actually be there that some things are a bit of a blur (oops soory). I guess I technically felt like what girls in the 60s felt when they went to see a Beatles concert. Just so cool. All the songs were great, and sooo good live! Liam acted a little goonish, or more or less how you'd expect Liam to act. Noel was great on his songs too. Yeah there was a little bantering between Noel and Liam, but it was more playful than anything. Also they didn't seem to swear too much and I don't think Liam challenged anyone to a fight or anything.
I guess the part I liked the best was when Liam dedicated the last song to...Jesus!?! Yeah he said "This one's for Jesus on the cross, coz he was the first one. It's Rock and Roll Star." Boy did my jaw drop when I heard that one, but it was out of JOY because he actually remembered that today is Good Friday, and I thought "Oh my goodness maybe, just maybe God IS making an inroad into their lives a little bit to say the least. Maybe my prayer for them are working?" (I will never doubt prayer now!)
After the concert I did again try waiting for them to come out to their tour bus and possibly sign autographs. They did come out to their tour bus but unfortunately didn't sign any autographs because they have to get to Indianapolis by Saturday the 22nd. I didn't mind too much, though some people did. I was just glad to be there.
Great concert indeed!
