Del Norte 217E Microwave Transponder
The Del Norte 217E is used in conjunction with a Trisponder Distance Measuring Unit (DMU), Del Norte's 217E master and remote transmitter/receivers (T/Rs) give the most dependable method of achieving the critical range accuracy required for precise positioning. Del Norte T/Rs have the power to operate accurately at up to 80 Km (50 miles) range. They are also ideal units for operation close-in, where their power penetrates the adverse propagation conditions that may be caused by rain, squalls, mist, fog, etc. To maintain accuracy, specialized circuitry compensates for variation in signal strength caused by changing environmental and operational conditions. For areas of high survey activity, the Trisponder allows for flexible multi-user capability. In situations requiring true anti-null operations Del Norte makes a Dual Port Master 217E T/R. This unit features a built-in antenna switching device to overcome destructive interference that may be caused by signal reflections. Del Norte 217E T/Rs have the additional capability of carrying GPS differential corrections simultaneously with "standard" Trisponder range/range operations. Del Norte has available teams of engineers and technicians for field deployment anywhere in the world to provide training, assistance with first-time installations, or emergency response. Operation and maintenance classes are offered to users of Trisponder equipment at their factory in Euless, Texas. Additionally, Del Norte Trisponder® systems have been granted FCC type acceptance in accordance with the Industrial Radio-Location Service contained within FCC regulations.
Applications for this unit include Hydrographic Survey, Marine Geophysical Survey, Mine Counter Measures, Anti-submarine Operation, Offshore Survey, Photogrammetry, Dredging, Marine Construction/Salvage Operations, Ship Trials, Ferry Guidance, Rig Location, Seafloor Engineering, Flight Testing and more.
This transponder appears to be in good condition but I have no knowledge in these, therefore I have no way to test it. It is physically in good condition and most likely can be checked out/calibrated by Del Norte. The unit sold new for around $15,000 and is being sold "as is".
I also have another of these with a tag on it that says "Master" and no code numbers in the spot on the handle. Check it out here.
