This report was submitted to me by Chad Arment of Tipp City, Ohio. It reads as follows...
"A friend of mine told me that she had a sighting in the Hocking Hills area about two weeks ago. She was hiking with her husband and a young grandson near "Ash Cave". She had noticed some rocks rolling down off the cave front, but thought it was kids just playing around. She also heard a rapping noise, which she attributed to a woodpecker. Hiking up to the top of the cave, she was able to pinpoint the activity - BF sitting in tree roots next to a log, tapping the log with a baseball-sized rock, tossing smaller rocks down the hill. She described it as ("dark brown, black with silver tips on the chest area, no neck at all and a big head with conical shape.") She was a few hundred feet away, could only see it from the chest up; it was in brush / tree roots, but most of the foliage is gone this time of year. She thought it was just sitting there "people watching". No aggressive displays, but when it noticed them, it immediately froze. She watched it for about 10 minutes, then heard a group of people hiking up, so she left since she didn't know what the hikers would do if they noticed the animal. She wasn't close enough for her camera to get a shot of the animal, as it blended well with the background and shadows; with her 3 year old grandson along, she didn't want to risk getting closer. She did notice logs gouged on the sides, and is wondering if there are any reports of BF eating tree fungi?"
