My new Favorite Snack

Homemade Bread Pretzels

1 cup 105-115 degree water

1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Combine in bowl till yeast is dissolved.

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour

2 tablespoons soft butter

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar

Mix for at least 3 minutes

Stir in additional 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour

Knead until the dough loses its stickiness.Let rise in a covered greased bowl until doubled in bulk.(about an hour) Punch down and divied into 12 pieces and roll into a snake!!(hehe) About the size of a pencil.. but longer and shape into a pretzel shape. My daughter likes to just make circles.

Place on greased baking sheet and let rise until almost double in bulk. (about another hour or so)

Preheat oven to 450-475.

Have ready a boiling solution of 4 cups of water

and 5 teaspoons baking soda.

Do not use aluminum pan for this.(I use a wok!)

With a slotted spoon, carefully lower the pretzels intot eh water about 1 minute, or until they float to the top. Return them to the greased sheet.

Sprinkle with coarse salt- I also add Molly Mcbutter for a butter flavor.

Bake until crispy and browned. Best served at once...they usually don't last too long around here but if you have any left over...store in an airtight container after they are cool!
