Random Musings

Having grown up in the suburbs of mediocre midwestern cities, both large metropolises and rural areas have always intregued me. I long to be in a huge city that never sleeps and the sun is blocked out by the buildings or to hide in a minature little town where everyone knows everyone and you can't sneeze without being heard. The ordinaryness of midwestern suburbia is stifling—all the cookie cutter houses in straight little lines stretching on forever. The ordinary anonymity of it all is so tiring. Maybe that's why I've always longed to travel—to be anonymous and ordinary in beautiful places. I can't imagine being stunningly beautiful, so much so that you stop traffic. Forget money is power, beauty is power. If you are beautiful, you can be hideously poor and still become rich, famous, and basically have whatever you want. The curse of ordinaryness. If one is going to be ordinary, why not do it in some place extraordinary??
