After reviewing application, after application, MTV has made their decision. They have chosen JC Chasez...a soulful crooner from Washington D.C.; Justin...a Memphis native with blond curls (ahem...fake blond) and smooth moves; Joey Fatone...a Superman fanatic that was raised down in Brooklyn; Lance Bass...a Mississippi albino with a bass voice; and Chris Kirkpatrick...a highstrung fellow, with an even higher voice. MTV sends a clue to each guy.
The clue reads: NOW THE LAST TEST TO PASS. JUST HAUL YOUR ASS TO THE MUSIC MECCA IN THE SUNSHINE STATE. THE REST WILL BE THERE, SO DON'T BE LATE.
They were all supposed to meet in the Orlando airport where they would get another clue from Mr. Big. So Joey straps on a cape and flys down from Brooklyn. Lance hops on a horse and rides on over from Mississippi. JC grabs a night flight down from D.C. Chris hang glides in from Pennsylvania. And last, but not least, Justin has his mom drive him in the Benz down from Tennesse. At approximately...5:00 P.M., all five have arrived at the airport. They see a big fat guy holding a sign that says, ROAD RULES. He is dancing around waving the sign while singing, "ROAD RULES, ROAD RULES, WHAT 'CHA GONNA DO..WHAT 'CHA GONNA DO WHEN THEY COME FOR YOU."
Slowly, each one stops what they are doing and makes their way over to the big guy. Joey peels himself away from the snack bar and stumbles over. Lance puts down the horse magazine and wanders away from the newstand. JC stops jamming with the blind guy on the harmonica and comes to join them. Chris tells the old man he'll chat with him a little later about Andy Griffith and hobbles over to join the group. Justin finishes giving his number to the camp-bound cheerleaders, who have just stepped off the plane, and slides over. Now that they are all there, the fat guy introduces himself as House. He will pose as their bodyguard thoughout the trip. The five guys introduce themselves to each other and then just stand there quietly, not knowing what they are supposed to do next. House hands them a tape recorder, and JC pushes the play button. A familiar voice says, "Hi! This is Mr. Big. In order to make you five losers big stars, we're gonna have to take it STEP BY STEP! Sometimes the music world will leave you HANGIN TOUGH, but you'll get through it. You NEW KIDS go outside and ON THE end of the BLOCK is the Winnie. House has the keys. HAVE FUN!"
They all race outside to the Winnie. Justin automatically climbs in the driver's seat. "Phat yo!", he exclaims, running his hands around the steering wheel. The clue on the windshield tells them to head to an old abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of Orlando. There they will prepare for their first misson: to make up a dance with the help of a choreographer. The moves will be used in a later mission. "YO, I'll drive 'cuz da Benz is 'bout dis size", Justin says. Everyone is quiet, not knowing what to say. No one disagrees with Justin, so he shifts it into drive and they're off.
