Winnie-the-Pooh

Who knew that a silly old bear could set so many minds in motion?

A.A. Milne's classic storybook, written for his only son, Christopher Robin, is so sweet at heart. How many of us love this bear of Very Little Brain... but how many of us have actually read the book? I hadn't, until this weekend (10/2/99). I was actually rather surprised though - I already knew most of the stories. They must have crept into my life somewhere, in the storybooks of younger friends, TV, I really don't know. What a strange feeling this, to read something for the very first time, but to know it already, almost by heart. Heart is the key here, I suppose -- for this Bear (or this Pooh, depending on whom you ask) is just That sort of bear. Or is it the other way around~ the Bear is the key, and key is the heart ...? It's all the same in the end, the Bear is the heart, and what a good one at that.

I don't know why so much is made of it, it all seems rather simple to me.

But sometimes, I suppose, simplicity hides the deepest of spirits.

"Still waters run deep."
     --Old proverb.
