*sigh* There's not too much good to say about Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. I will try to keep this as non-condemning as possible, but let me just say this, this game sucked.

Well, I guess a person should really take into account that this game was not meant for experienced Final Fantasy veterns. It was meant to entice action and younger video game players to role playing games, maybe to prepare them for the coming adventure of Final Fantasy III.

Where to begin? The plotline, very, very simple. You restore the Crystals of Light and then, oh the shock! you battle the Dark King behind it all. The sub-plot lines and such are very simple. You are guided throughout the game by the Elder? I think his name was, basically led step by step. The only free action you seem to do is choosing your battles and in most cases, the type of enemy to fight.

The graphics just sucked. I would rate them less than Final Fantasy II, supposedly earlier and using less technology than this one. The music was good however. The music for Focus Tower is quite catchy.

Your companions were chosen for you, and that really sucked for an experienced Final Fantasy player like myself. By now, we're used to choosing who to put in our leading party. *g* But they were good companions who often saved the day. I guess that's a good point.

The dungeons were quite clever though. Not too hard and not too easy. They involved advanced planning, which is something I loathe and still admire as a challenge. By this I mean pulling switches, placing bombs, pressing this button, that sort of thing.

I thought the main character was thrown into the story with a great amount of sloppiness. He had no background, only a brief reference to his village that had disappeared, which he shows no signs of grief or any emotion over. Oh, and he has a sword and knows how to use it. *g* But that's never explained, so that doesn't count. He's told that he's the legendary Knight that's going to save everyone and he only questions it a little? *makes sounds of disgust* The other characters have reasons for joining the Knight at least.

Let's see...Spells...Regular in-treasure-box deal. Armor and weapons (which you can't remove or add from/to allies)...treasure box or won in battle. Hmm...That's about all. In my opinion, this game should not be bought unless it's for a six year old, and even then you don't want to for the violence. If you're really in need of a new game to play and you see this at the bargin basement store, buy it, but don't expect to get much more than what you money merits. Although I doubt that you can even find it these days.
The four Crystals of Light in the Focus Tower, before the story.
You may now press the button to destroy this game
A battlefield stone where you fight ten times and win armor, experience, money or a spell
This is a little reward for reading my tirade against Mystic Quest. *g* And reaching the bottom of the page
Focus Tower, which divides the world into four... where the Dark King lies...Hmmm, Dark Tower...*g*
