| As you can tell by the pictures, Final Fantasy VIII looks b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l!!! Recently released in Japan, it's getting rave reviews and may become the top selling Final Fantasy game to date. Due in North America in September 1999, it's driving people like myself crazy waiting! *g* So we're scooping up any pic, movie or hint of info we can get! The storyline takes place in a world at peace, but there are Gardens around the world where special soldiers called SeeD are trained. SeeD is sort of like a company of mercenaries, hired out to buyers, but they also defend their own interests. Oh, and their main purpose is to keep peace in the world. Our main character is Squall, a student at one of these Gardens. His friends are Selphie and Zell, fellow students and Quintis, his teacher. Cid, the character from past Final Fantasy games, is back again as the principal of Squall's Garden. And there's Seifer, Squall's nemisis. It's him that gives Squall his scar on his face. Incidently, Seifer has the identical scar himself. At Squall's graduation into SeeD, he meets Rinoa, his future romantic interest. In my opinion, Rinoa looks very Tifa-like to me. *g* Anyway, eventually Squall and company are sent to kill Edea, a witch controlling a super-power country. Joining them is Ervine, a sniper from another Garden. As they go along, they get into many side-adventures. Square let loose information saying that a witch passes her power to whoever she wants to and innocent people can find themselves suddenly with great power. Now, wouldn't it be nice and very dramatic for Rinoa to inherit Edea's power? *g* Oh, another character is Laguna Loire, who seems to be Squall's alter-ego. Anyway, Squall dreams about his life as an enemy soldier and journalist. I'm going to predict that Laguna is going to be Squall's twin or father or something like that. Maybe he's Rinoa's brother. *g* |

| Other new or different things: No more espers/materia. Now there are Guardian Forces (G.F.). They work very much like the summoning materia of FFVII. You get a card, then equip it (junction is the word that's used, I think). You gain experience and eventually master it. There's no magic this time around. No shops to buy magic spells. Instead, you use the 'Draw' command in battle and 'draw' magic from your enemies. Apparently you have to store it for a while to learn it permanently or you can use it right after 'drawing' for a big attack. You can also get G.F. cards with 'Draw' as well. (I think.) Ragnarok is the name of the airship and there's trains, subs/boats, cars, but no Chocobos!!!! *wail* | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
