Macey’s music career took off in the next few months, (she still kept her job at Virgin Records, even though she only worked about once a week) but during that time she also became very depressed about what she had done, to Nick, and herself. Nick, Brian, and AJ would call and leave messages on her answering machine, but she would never return any of them. During this time she became best friends with Justin, he was the only person who could seem to make her laugh and smile. She hadn’t talked to any of the guys in months until one day Brian came into Virgin Records to look for her.
“Is Macey Taylor working today?”Brian asked a salesclerk.
“Yes, she’s working in the movie department.”-salesclerk
“Thanks”Brian said as he headed over towards the movie section.
“Macey?”Brian said to the girl behind the counter who had her back towards him.
“What?”Macey said as she turned around. “Oh, hi.”
“So why haven’t you been returning our calls, Nick’s a mess?”-Brian
“What have I done?”Macey said starting to cry.
“I’ve messed his life up along with messing mine up more. Look at me Brian, is it just me, or do I look like a wreck?”Macey said pointing to herself. She had circles under her eyes, was very pale, and had lost a lot of weight. “Nobody cares about me, all it is is Nick, Nick, Nick, I can understand that to some extent, but doesn’t anyone realize what I’ve been through? I’ve been to hell, and back. I’ve lost all my friends because I won’t do anything with them anymore. The only people still there for me are Callie, Chantel, and Justin. They are the only people who don’t look at me like a bum who sits around crying, studying, and singing music all day, the ONLY people.”-Macey said crying more silent tears.
“I’m sorry Macey, I’m sorry everyone cared about Nick, but we didn’t know what you were doing, or if you were all right or not until now. Nobody knew.”Brian said hugging Macey’s now frail body.
“I know, I’m sorry too, for everything, for hurting Nick, and hurting everyone else. Tell him that for me, will ya?”-Macey
“Yeah, I’ll do that. I promise. Will you call me, please?”-Brian
“Yeah, but I think you better go now, i need to get back to work.”-Macey
“Ok, I will, remember we’re always here for you, and Nick is too, no matter what you think. He still loves you with all his heart, and is trying to convince himself that you need this time, to sort things out, then you will come back to him. He’s still trying to convince himself this 3 months later. You broke his heart. Nothing can ever change what you did to him, nothing, but he’ll always be there for you, I know this. Good-bye Macey.”Brian said hugging her frail body one more time then walking out of the store.

A few weeks later, after her encounter with Brian, Justin convinced Macey to let him take her to a Backstreet boys concert. Macey didn’t want to go, in fear of being spotted by Nick, but Justin finally convinced her to go. Callie and Chantel also came along. The night of the concert soon arrived. Macey tried hard to disguise the paleness in her face, and the circles under her eys, but nothing helped. They finally left for the concert, and Macey was terrified when she found out they had front row seats. Before the concert Macey was spotted by Brian and AJ, from behind the curtain, who waved at her. She smiled back. The concert finally began. They sang all of their hits, then it came time for their solos. Nick’s turn was up, his solo was last.
“Hey Orlando!! How’s it goin?”Nick said as he scanned the audience in hopes of seeing Macey. Then he finally spotted her tiny body in the audience. She knew she had been spotted, because he looked deep into her eyes, in hopes of finding the old Macey, and she looked right back into his. They both saw pain.
“I’m going to sing the song 'I Need You Tonight,' which is 'Heaven In Your Eyes' redone a little bit. Macey do you remember?”Nick said as he looked right at her. Suddenly all the memories of the good times they had together rushed back to her, and silent tears began falling from her eyes. Then he started to sing.
“Open up your heart to me, and say what’s on your mind. I know that we have beeen through so much pain, but I still need you in my life this time. And I need you tonight, I need you right now. I know deep within my heart it doesn’t matter if it’s wrong or right. I really need you tonight. I figured out what to say to you, I know sometimes the words come out so wrong, and I know in time that you will understand that what we have is so right......”Nick sang directly at Macey.
“Uh...Callie, will you go with me to get a drink, I’m kinda thirsty?” Macey said as more silent tears came from her eyes. Nick just finished singing the song when he looked over at her one last time and saw the tears coming from her eyes. He wanted to hold her, again, so much and make her pain go away, but he knew he couldn’t, life just didn’t work that way.
“Yeah, let’s go,” Callie replied seeing the tears running down Macey’s face.

“Are you ok?” Callie asked once they got to the refreshment stand.
“He knows I’m here, he saw me, he sang that song directly to me, what have I done. To him, to me? What made me just give up on our relationship like that. I miss him so much Callie, what can I do to make things right? He probably hates me now.”Macey said trying to hold back more tears.
“He doesn’t hate you, that’s for sure, he’s just hurt. Couldn’t we go backstage afterwards, couldn’t you call Brian. There’s gotta be someway you could talk to him, in person, alone. There has to be.”-Callie

“Brian, she’s here,” Nick said referring to Macey.
“I know, I saw her” -Brian
“She looks so hurt, so sad. What happened to her, what did I do?”-Nick
“Nick, it’s NOT your fault! DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT? Don’t let anyone make you think it’s your fault.”-Brian
“I know, Brian, but I want her back.”-Nick
“Call her Nick, she won’t hang up on you. Trust me on this one.”-Brian
