Sonny and Carly

April 4, 2000

[Carly is holding Sonny after waking him from a nightmare. He pulls back after a while.]

Sonny: What are you doing here?

Carly: I heard you. Thought something was wrong.

[She turns on the light.]

Sonny: You all right?

Carly: I'm fine. You were having another nightmare, huh?

Sonny: Yeah, whatever. You know. Sorry I woke you. You should go back to bed.

[Carly nods and gets up to leave but she stops and asks...]

Carly: You were dreaming about your wife, weren’t you?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Carly: Right before I woke you up you said Lily’s name. When I stayed with you before Jason came home last summer, you told me you dream about her sometimes.

Sonny: I'm all right. Don’t worry about me, ok?

Carly: You said ‘don’t go.’ Were you seeing her walk to the car?

Sonny: Yeah. I was watching her walk towards the car. She looked back, smiled. But then all of a sudden, she’s standing on the stairs with our kid. They’re waving goodbye. Whew. I know what’s going to happen next, but I can’t stop it. Then you woke me up.

[Carly goes back and sits next to Sonny on the bed.]

Sonny: How about you? You all right after, you know, A.J. knocked you down? You got any aches and pains?

Carly: Nah. I’m ok. He didn’t even hit me. I’m fine.

Sonny: I knew he was going to explode. I should have stopped him.

Carly: God, I’m fine. The baby’s fine. But if he had hurt me or the baby, you’d be the first person I told. We’re really ok. Promise.

[She places his hand on her stomach and Sonny smiles.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Carly: Ok, like...Can you tell? Right there. I know. I’m a little out there.

Sonny: I don’t feel anything.

[Carly pulls him out of the bed. She lays down on the couth and puts Sonny’s hand back on her stomach.]

Carly: Ok, come on.

Sonny: Wait, wait, wait.

Carly: No, here, come on.

Sonny: What are you doing?

Carly: Come on.

Sonny: What are you doing?

Carly: This is going to be really good.

[Sonny sighs]

Carly: You’ll be able to see now. Oh! Ok.

Sonny: What?

Carly: Give me...

Sonny: All right.

Carly: It’s like, right...no, it’s like, sort of right there. Can you feel that?

Sonny: Yeah, it’s a little bit of a...yeah, a little bump.

Carly: Won’t be little for very long. I got as big as a house with Michael.

Sonny: Thank you.

Carly: Just sit down there. You know, I know that my job is to protect myself and the baby. So, I’m sorry. Next time A.J. aims a bottle at you, I’ll hide. And then I’ll yell.

Sonny: This is never going to happen again.

Carly: I did dazzle that coffee guy, though, didn’t I?

Sonny: Yeah, yeah. You did.

Carly: At least he left before A.J. started throwing things.

Sonny: That’s true. At least I didn’t get arrested this time. Maybe I should stop meeting this guy.

Carly: Maybe you should just go to another restaurant.

Sonny: Oh, no, no, because I like the cook at the grill.

Carly: Boys and their territory. I’m sorry that I scared you by falling down.

Sonny: That’s not what scared me.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sonny: When you hit that table, it was, like, everything was in slow motion, you know? Everything falling but me not being able to stop it. Don’t ever put yourself in danger for me.Never. You understand me.?

Carly: I do now.

Sonny: Ok. That’s...that’s what I wanted to say downstairs, but I didn’t handle it right.

Carly: Well, I could have been a little more understanding. You’ve been good to me.

Sonny: Yeah.

Carly: Very good. Much to my amazement. You asked one thing...that I respect your privacy...and I didn’t do it. I’m sorry. But I will. And I want you to know that you can trust me.

Sonny: It’s been pointed out to me that there’s a difference between letting your mother go into my desk and spying for the F.B.I.

Carly: Are you saying you overreacted?

Sonny: No, no, no, I’m not. but I’m just saying there’s a chance that, you know, people can learn from their mistakes and...maybe...and I’m willing to try.

Carly: Yeah?

Sonny: Yeah.

Carly: Me, too. It’s better than goading each other into something crazy. That ends up hurting everyone.

Sonny: Well, I’d rather not hurt you.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sonny: Well, you should go back to bed. You know, I’ll try not to bother you again.

Carly: There’s no bother. Good night. Sleep well.

Sonny: Yeah, you too.

[She grabs her robe and leaves.]

Carly: Excuse me.
